After Surprise/Innocence - NEW SHOW!

This has probably been discussed in here for many years...but oh well, I`m new! 😛

A few weeks ago I started to rewatch the entire series from episode 1.
Yesterday I watched Surprise/Innocence and it occurred to me just how much the show changed during these two episodes! The show went from totally cheesy to serious in just two episodes! Not just the stories, but the characters and even the acting changed.

Sorry, just had to share my "revelation"! lol

(and it also premiered the beautiful Buffy/Angel Love Theme!) 😛
 
I always say those two episodes not only changed the show but Buffy herself, how she relates to people and the fact that her heart will never be completely open after what happens here. These are probably my favorite episodes of all time (with IWRY) and I totally get what you're saying. Joss twisted our expectations and a tv show we thought we knew...brilliant work of heart.
 
You're right, they changed..
But after those episodes, season 2 became fantastic. David's acting was amazing, and he rocks as Angelus! Thumbs up, David!
 
Yes, the show definitely changed a lot after the Surprise/Innocence airing. That was actually when I got hooked on the show. I was already into it, but I think when Angel lost his soul was when I realized that there was actually some "meat" to the storyline besides the fluffy monster-of-the-week type thing that we had seen so far from the show.
 
Those two episodes were really a turning point, not only for the show, but for Buffy herself. We got to know Angel more, his past and his intentions. But, I must say that it changed us fans. There are so many girls making the wrong choice and then regreting it.. Buffy never did that. She had this beautiful moment that turned into something bad but she never forgot how that moment beautiful was. I guess she thought me how to find something beautiful even if something bad happens right away.
 
I agree here...

To me, one of the best episodes in the shows 7 year run was 'Passion'... an episode with introduction and epilogue spoken by Angelus... something that never happened again (that i can remember)

That half season, with Angelus stalking around Sunnydale, marked the highpoint of Buffy in my eyes 😀

This was definitely a turning point for the show. Innocence was actually the first episode of the show I ever saw, I saw it accidentally when it originally aired, and I was blown away by the show. The earlier episodes are fun to watch, but this really is, as the title of the second episode implies, where the show lost its innocence.
