Aftermath Artwork Horrible Or Not

Hey i just started reading Aftermath and i found the artwork aboustlutly horrible. I read issue 19 and how they drew Gwen was just not right i mean her hair was a different couler and it looked nothing like her. Also how they started drawing Angel he looks to muscular and all the other chracters they drew horrible. In my Opinion bring back Franco Urru

I definitely prefer Franco Urru, although Ross is certainly talented he needs to tone it all down a notch and match his style with the tone of the series.

I actually think the current art team is far better than the previous art was. I think the book is reading better now, too. Feels more like Angel.

Although, I'm having problems thinking of this book as the "Official" continuation, now that Joss doesn't seem to have anything to do with the book anymore.

WHY, WHY didn't they just set this up the same as Buffy season 8, with alternating writers, and "Episodes"?

I haven't been very impressed with the way any of the artists on either "After The Fall/Aftermath" or "Season 8" draw the characters, If Spike About the only three characters that I can recognize consistently on either series are Spike, Xander, and Dawn, and that's more because of Spike's coat, Xander's eye patch, and Dawn's size or horsieness than any similarity to the actors who played the parts. Angel is larger and way too muscular. He looks more like Superman than David. Spike's too tall. Willow looks like someone else completely. The worst part, though, is that the individual characters don't even look consistently the same throughout the same issue, let alone the same arc.

In defense of the artists, though, they really aren't drawing portraits of the various actors, and they're drawing a lot of pictures in a short amount of time.I can forgive their inconsistencies much easier than I would forgive the writers if they did the same thing.

Frankly, if it weren't for the fact that "Season 8" is at least SUPPOSED to be canon and the storyline "After the Fall/Aftermath" is fairly interesting, if somewhat muddled in parts, I wouldn't bother with either series.

I really liked After The Fall and hoped that aftermath would be good but it turned out to be like the old non-canon comics...both the plto and the art are rubbish

The art's the least of the problems. Aftermath itself is horrible compared to After the Fall.

Armstrong contradicts Joss, Fury, Bell and Angel himself by saying Angel considers himself redeemed because he's just that good.

And issue #19 has Angel saying "You treacherous...!" Something that I could see coming out of Adam West's Batman's mouth a lot sooner than Boreanaz's Angel.

Loved After the Fall. Loved it. I'm very disappointed with Aftermath thus far. The artwork is a big part of this. What's with all those rippling muscles on Angel? He looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his body bulding days rather than Angel. And yeah, big anime heads and hair. And also, I picked up Blood and Trenches #'s 1 & 2 at the same time and in that Angel is drawn so well that it was impossible not to make unfavorable comparisons.

I actually like the book. The artwork is good (much better than Nick Runge's). Not great, but it works fine. I also like that the story is a continuation of AtF. It's not just lightly touching on the things that happened (as if doing so is a chore) and then moving ahead, but it's really putting focus, both plot-wise and character-wise, on the events coming out of AtF.

Joss approved the story and I'm enjoying it much more than I expected. I actually really like it. So in my eyes it's canon. 🙂

Cool, but just FYI, that "Joss Approved" line IDW and Armstrong keep throwing out there is pretty deceptive.

Technically ALL material bearing the Buffy or Angel name is "Joss Approved." Joss himself said that he likes the idea of the expanded universe (non-canon stories written by people other than himself and his team), but he spends little time even reviewing that stuff.

According to him, pretty much the only way not to get his company's approval is if the material's tone betrays the tone of the Buffyverse (killing off main characters, pornography, etc.).

And with the art, I don't think the main criticism here is that the art itself is bad, but that the art doesn't look like the characters. This isn't Marvel or DC, these characters are meant to look like specific flesh and blood people (Boreanaz, Kartheiser, Rohm, etc.) and they don't, they look like cartoons.

Like Tranquility was saying, Angel has been drawn like a bodybuilder rather than like Boreanaz who is just a big guy with an athletic build; and, bodybuilder vs. athletic build could equal up to 100+ pound difference on a 6'1" guy. So it's just silly to create such a drastic difference.

I personally think that Armstrong's Angel claiming that he's atoned for 100 years of evil shows that Aftermath isn't canon. Whedon (Creator, owner, producer), Fury (Showrunner) and Bell (Showrunner), the three guys who ran Angel, all say that Angel will keep fighting, but will not atone, at least until after the final battle mentioned in Fray & the Shanshu Prophecy. That battle is way off into the future (up to 16 years) and will end the Slayer line for a very long time.

I just got my issues of AfterMath and the artwork is terrible. Since when has Angel been that muscly? He looks like Superman. And Connor looks too chubby!

Very disappointed in this series. The Angel comics have gone to the dogs.
