Arrow"˜s two-part midseason finale may wrap up on December 11, but the day before"“December 10"“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."˜s two-part midseason finale will kick off with the return of J. August Richards.

Per Marvel's website, the episode will also bring back Raina as Coulson and his group make a run on Centipede, bringing in Richards's Mike Peterson as their superhuman trump card.

It's called "The Bridge," and here's the official description:

J. AUGUST RICHARDSIn a shocking cliffhanger episode, Coulson takes the war back to Centipede, and this time he brings in Mike Peterson for some super-soldier support. As they get closer to the truth, startling secrets are revealed and an unexpected twist threatens the team, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Tuesday, December 10 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Guest starring are J. August Richards as Mike Peterson, Ajani Wrighster as Ace, Ruth Negga as Raina, Rick Malambri as Brian Hayward, Molly McCook as Laura Hayward, Cullen Douglas as Edison Po, Rico Devereaux as prison guard and Albert Marrero Jr. as trainer.

"The Bridge" was written by Shalisha Francis and directed by Holly Dale.

It's worth noting that while many of the fans demanding a deeper and more meaningful connection to the Marvel Universe might see such a crowded episode with ties to the finale as prime real estate to bring in some familiar names and faces, it doesn't seem as though any of those names are meaningful in the Marvel Universe. The closest we get is that the Haywards might be a reference to "The Diary of Dr. Hayward," a one-page strip Jack Kirby did under a pseudonym back in the earliest days of his career.

I'm glad he's coming back, I dont like how the announcement when he joined implied he was part of the cast it didn't set out what type of role he had.
 
If Richards was kept on I may actually pick this show up again. He was the most interesting part of the pilot.
 
I thought he was okay in the pilot, not poorly acted or anything, but I wasn't a fan of his character on the whole. "Capitalism screws the little guy" is a theme that has been done to death, and there was nothing original about it whatsoever in the pilot.

Yes!! I'm so glad they're bringing him back. I really liked his character, he made some really good points that have not since been addressed, and I like that they're re-visiting Centipede.
 
I don't watch this show,but I'm glad J is getting work,he very richly deserves it,he's a very great actor. 🙂

CBR's own Albert Ching spoke with "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jeffrey Bell about what to expect for tonight's midseason finale and beyond.

"I don't think we should be led by fans, I think we should have fans follow," Bell told CBR. "People saying, 'faster, more, faster, more' -- you can never go faster, and you can never give them enough. You have to trust the stories that you're wanting to tell, have a plan, and hopefully at the end people will go, "Oh, they knew what they were doing, that was cool, I didn't see that coming, that was really satisfying." That's our goal. And we'll find out! But we think we have cool stuff planned, and from 10 on out, we're starting to turn over cards. If you think of 22 episodes as a movie, we're at the one-hour mark in the movie. Things are picking up. We're still building towards the climax before we get to falling action, but you've set the table for what's going to happen."

I agree and disagree with his comments. I 100% agree they shouldn't be lead by fans, Whedon has a really bad habit of following fans, but I think the case of SHIELD, it wasn't a new concept, we're already like 6(?) movies deep into the verse.

It would have been a much better idea to make SHIELD a 12 episode series along the lines of Walking Dead, American Horror Story and GoT we expect epicness from TV shows now, and SHIELD hasn't delivered on that (though it's gotten better with each episode), television now a days doesn't have the luxury of a slow build, shows are cancelled at the drop of a hat.

12-episode series are very uncommon on the major networks. Given the status of ABC in relation to Marvel, this show wasn't going to appear on any other network.

Oh I know, but networks are starting to cop on that 12 episode orders can work on Network TV. Once Upon a time in Wonderland is only 12 episodes, same with Sleepy Hollow, the upcoming season of 24 and The Following.

But Marvel have teamed up with Netflix to do 12 episode series for Daredevil and a couple of others.
