Hey all. So as most of you guys know I live in Australia (usually anyway). And in 3 weeks I'm moving to London and it's a little freaky, but also exciting!
Was hoping that some of the lovely UK BB members would give me some tips, on stuff you think I should know... Like where's the good comic stores for Buffy comics? This is kinda important 😛 Owh and is there a 'bad' neighbourhood I shouldn't move into? Have one good friend there now, so only know so much.

Aww are you moving like real moving for good? I know nothing about London so I cant help you out with anything but I hope you have a safe trip and enjoy yourself in the far away land 😛
Will you be one of those people on OZ day in the pub singing "I still call Australia home"? 😀

Maybe for good, and yes possibly be singing that when drunk :p
where abouts in London are you moving too?

There is Forbidden Planet in Covent Garden

I live in Harrow and we have our own comic shop here called Calamity Comics.

London, how exciting, man I wish I was moving to London!
Well I spent my last summer there, so I can give you some tips but not a lot. Near the British Museum there is this lovely second hand bookstore. I don't know if they have comics, but they do have some Buffy books and also Angel.

Not sure which part I'm moving to yet, looking at a place in Leyton when I get there.. that's North Westish?

Leyton is more North Eastish, I used to live in Leytonstone but only till I was about 5 so I cant remember what it was like or what it is like now.

I just flew out from London a couple of days ago. I really really loved it there, but I found that generally most suburbs get a bit dodgy occasionally, especially at night! I stayed in Camden Town and absolutely LOVED it, but that might not be your scene. You're going to have so much fun! It really is a great place. (Apart from the weather!)

Camden Town is immense, used to go there all the time when I was seeing a girl from London.
Ok so I have a question for Londoners.. hopefully there are some around?
How the heck do you use an oyster card? I know it's useable on all public transport... but like how does it actually work? I had this agency send me one with 10 pounds on it so far.. and I'm wondering. Do you stick it in some machine and put in where you're going with it.. so it knows how much to deduct from the card? And what do you put it in? Where do you swipe it....? The same place you do regular tickets?
I know kind of stupid sounding question, but the website isn't really a fountain of information. ???

I'm no London girl but I know how it works, because I also had one of these babies for my 4 week trip there 🙂

Everytime you wanna ride the tube you just go to these things where you normally put in your card, only there is this sort of touch panel where you just hold your Oyster card to it and enter. On the way out you go to the panel again with your card and check out. When you don't have any more money on it you go to a counter and ask them to top up your Oyster card, give them money and the card and they will do it.

oh thanks hun, but does it just take off the same amount of money everytime? I guess it's different amounts depending what station you leave from?

Hmm.. wait that's actually making sense. Yay!

Yeah, Oysters baffled me for a while.

Basically whenever you use the underground or buses you just hold it in front of the big yellow circle (it's hard to miss) From what I remember you only do it the once on a bus but you use it when you exit the underground. You also add credit to it but I forgot how that works, since i never had one just the people that I knew lived there did.

thanks I'll try to remember yellow circle!
Myself,London is definitely one of the cities I've love to spend some time in before I ultimately leave this mortal coil.

The Oyster card described here sounds like those pay as you go cards that are commonplace here in the States, correct?
(Alexa: If memory serves,Washington's Metro subway has farecards-magnetic cards that deduct the correct fare to wherever you're going(which depends on where you're going to AND the time of day);they're not, however, the "tap and go" type of card.)

Heh I'd like to spend time in NYC before I leave this mortal coil
Cool! Remember to pack your artistic talents before you get on the plane! You don't wanna forget those, lol.

aw thanks. Yeah actually those are important because that's my job :p
Geee... I wanna be in London too! >.<
Can you put me in your bag? Kinda far, I know, but.. lol

Beware of the weather, it can kill you xD

Come on people, don't be so negative. When I was in London last year it hardly ever rained. And believe me, here in Belgium/the Netherlands it rains like 50 times more often.
