Alexis as James Bond

So even though Alexis made it to the top 200 picks to play James Bond obviously he lost out to Daniel Craig.

I like Craig as much as the next guy, and I'm probably a bit biased, but I honestly think Alexis would have been better.

As a heterosexual male, I honestly think Alexis is better looking and more charismatic. Craig is in better shape than Alexis, but what does that really mean nowadays? Christian Bale was emaciated when he was cast as Batman, he just entered weight training for a few months to bulk up.

If we look at two of the more prolific Bonds, Connery and Brosnan, they were both 80% charm and 20% action hero. All of us have seen that Alexis can pull that off masterfully where Craig is 95% action hero.

Yes, but that was "I'm an alcoholic former happy-go-lucky geek that now rides around in a beaten up rustbucket beheading vampires", not "I'm a suave secret agent".

I've seen Daniel Craig in several roles other than Bond, and he is a very good actor. But as far as James Bond goes, I'm sorry, he just ain't 007. I don't know if that is because the studio is trying to save a declining franchise by "redefining" the character in order to make it more relevant to the 21st century, or they have just lost focus of what James Bond is, but they have totally missed the character as it was created by Ian Flemming and portrayed by every actor from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan. James Bond is sophisticated, stylish, and as deadly as a king cobra. He might get dirty, but he is never grubby. He never sweats, he never has a stubble. He's been an icon for almost half a century and the standard by which the genre is defined. He is the last true indomitable hero, the Superman without super powers.

The James Bond franchise is dying. The return on Craig's two and Brosnan's last three Bond movies barely doubled the cost of production, whereas Connery's "Goldfinger" still remains one of the greatest money making movies of all time. I say, let the series end, either permanently or temporarily, the way the "Batman" franchise did. There's a very good chance that a 5 to 7 year absence from the public view can revitalize the series, or at least allow the public enough time to be ready to accept a rebooting of the character. Craig's bond was just too much change too quickly.

(A little bit of James Bond trivia for anyone who might be interested. Sean Connery almost didn't take the role of Bond in "Dr No," because he had been offered a 3 movie contract to play a more established character. He turned down the opportunity to play Tarzan after Gordon Scott left. The role eventually went to Jock Mahoney)

As far as Alexis is concerned, given a few months to beef up, with the proper script and director, I believe that he could be certainly as good a Bond as Bronson ever was, and certainly better than Daniel Craig or Roger Moore (my dog could play Bond better than Roger Moore)

I don't think they way Bond has changed in the two most recent films is anything to do with Daniel Craig's portrayal. The whole point of 'Casino Royale', considering it was supposed to be before Bond had become what he is most famous for being, was to show that James Bond was just a human. He could be hurt, physically and mentally. Which is why they had him so bruised and beaten which they didn't usually do before. They had to show how he came to be everything you've described above. Casino Royale was one of the few Bond films I really enjoyed, since the early ones and then Goldeneye (but a lot of that is to do with the fact that the N64 game of it is still the only game I am awesome at), and a lot of that was down to the way Daniel Craig captured the fact Bond could be, at one time at least, be beat down and broken.

Anyway, as for Alexis? After being fairly disappointed with his performance in the most recent Dollhouse episodes, I just don't think he's strong enough to carry a role like that. But it's all just personal preference isn't it? 🙂

That's my point exactly. The producers have spent almost half a century establishing a certain type of character, and then they suddenly give us "double oh grunge." It's like making a movie with Tarzan wearing a business suit. (They did, actually. "Tarzan's New York Adventure," but they went to great extremes to show that he was, in fact, out of place, and they got him back in that leather loincloth just as quickly as possible) As I said, I have no complaints about Craig's talent as an actor, I just feel that the "new" James Bond is too big a change too quickly.

But maybe I'm just an old man with established tastes who doesn't see "new" as necessarily meaning "better."
