Warner Bros. Television is in the early stages of developing a reboot of the classic sitcom “ALF,” Variety has confirmed with sources. One idea that has reportedly been discussed for the reboot would involve ALF emerging from Area 51–where he has been held captive since the original series finale–and observing how much the world has changed since that time.

Considering the end of the original series, I mean sure. Reboot away. I loved ALF as a kid, having him captured at the end was pretty traumatic. I like the idea of showing that he survived that ordeal, if only for tiny Taake to take some retroactive comfort in that knowledge.

Well part of the whole show was about keeping him with the family so he wouldn't get captured, tortured and killed. So having him captured by the government just as he was about to be rescued by his friends, was pretty terrible. It implied violence more than it showed it though.

(this is great, I'll never have to watch an old show again, just make sure you have seen it... especially as with all these reboots of shows I've never seen before [yes, even Charmed] I cant be arsed to watch the old episodes to catch up)

Does the world really need a dark, gritty ALF reboot though?
'Traumatized by years of captivity and tortured/interrogation ALF makes his way in a strange new world from the one he knew. But he's different now, older and more cynical. His wry observations on humanity, not to mention his infamous puns, are now more poignant than ever'
Then we cue ALF doing his Rorschach-like voice-over.

In all seriousness why not just...I dunno, come up with a different puppet and a different family and a different set-up/scenario. Can't be that hard; trading on a name just seems lazy.

Well they didn't want to keep him from the start, the human family that is. Cause he wanted to eat their cat and what not. But then the government came and were like "hey, we'd like to dissect and study him" and the family were all "oh yeah, sorry, haven't seen him".

A couple of season later he was supposed to return with his fellow ALF-aliens, sorry can't remember what they were called, and they were coming to take him away from Earth, i.e. rescuing him and taking him home. Buuuuut boom, just as they're about to pick him up... he gets captured and taken away by the government who wanted to study and dissect him. Traumatizing. Almost as traumatizing as watching It.

I'm sorry you were traumatized by writing about it, but I agree that watching it probably was more traumatizing.

Wow, the ending sounds like a major downer. I would have liked it. Wasn't ALF the show that Jerry Stahl was doing when he was all jacked up?

I'm not even sure who Jerry Stahl is honestly. But I'm all for a reboot that'll tell me Alf didn't get dissected!

Bear in mind that I only know ALF from a few of episodes that I watched years ago and the Robot Chicken sketches/critiques. I'm pretty sure puns were his shtick.

I am beginning to think you are making theses-up. Is there a new reboot greenlighted each week? Why is this happenning? I didn't watch ALF but I feel like this is more a 80s think where things were simpler and more friendly on tv. I don't see how this could survive in our days of television!

I've been thinking the same. Maybe the TV and film people have got wind of just how much it annoys people so have just decided to up their games😉
