Ridley Scott lost whatever goodwill The Martian bestowed him in my eyes when he talked about Prometheus/Alien prequel news. There was some Alien connection in Prometheus, which served as a quasi-prequel, but the good news is that there will be even more of an alien connection in the future. However it probably wont be until Prometheus 4!

That's as bad as wanting to do 7 or 10 or 50 friggin Avatar movies (whatever that total is at now)... The plan is four Prometheus movies and then REBOOT Alien.. That's the plan? That sounds like a bloody George Lucas plan! What the heck.

I'm sorry Ridley, I am taking you off my Christmas card list.

I really, really wanted to love Prometheus but.. man, I really, really did not. The acting was good, and it was visually pleasing at points, but just.. blah. It didn't work.

Really though? Another three Prometheus films? Then an Alien reboot? Why reboot something that is considered practically perfect in the sci-fi genre. Gawd. I am so sick of prequels and reboots.

Well I did like Prometheus. If he comes out with another one I'll go see it. I doubt he'll make it to 4 though.

i think alien 1 and 2 were good movies, the rest not so much. prometheus was a bad movie. i havent seen the martian but im eager to see it

I also liked Prometheus, but to be fair I saw it before I saw Alien. And to clarify Alien is the better movie, but I do want to see where the Prometheus movies go. I thought the next Alien movie was suppose to be like a sequel to Aliens.

Well... scuttlebutt is that Scott announced he was doing four Prometheus movies as an attempt to halt or slow production on Blomkamp's Alien 'reboot'... as it was set to take place after Aliens it was effectively retconning Alien 3 and the insufferable Joss Whedon Alien movie.

Oh ok. Well i don't really care about a sequel anyways. Was jus curious
I hated Prometheus. The film looks amazing and has a great atmosphere, but the characters are terrible. They're supposed to be scientists, but I'm having trouble thinking of another group of people that acts so irrationally in a film that isn't about teenagers being slaughtered by a masked killer. The characters can make or break a movie, and in this case they completely wrecked the film.
However, with a good script and good characters, I wouldn't object to more Prometheus films. Alien is one of my favorite films of all time, but other than that I don't care for the series. I didn't like Aliens either and Alien will always be a standalone story for me, so they can build around it whatever they want. If they're good movies and I enjoy watching them, great.

I thought I was alone in my dislike for Aliens. It's not quote-unquote bad, but it wasn't a horror movie.

No i didn't really care for Aliens either, it's an action movie
Prometheus was awful as a horror movie because all the actions of the characters were so utterly nonsensical that you didn't care if any of them lived or died. I mean, I liked David the android but other than that...so much wasted acting talent.

Alien is a great horror movie and Aliens is a great action movie- but I never thought of Aliens as 'scary', it just never had that feel to me. It's the film where Riley became an action heroine and not the survivor of a horror movie.
