Just a casual conversation to come up, I don't feel like going over the details, I'm just sharing for anyone who might be interested in talking about it (or might have even read something about it).
First, there's this vid that claims Joss originally wanted Newt (as a teen) to have been the one "resurrected" and trained, but those above him said no (mainly, they wanted Ripley). It was supposed to include a hostile encounter between the pirates and Earth forces at the end, but it was said to be cut (this being even in the Ripley version, at least Joss wanted it).
About 10 minutes, I played it faster without a problem in understanding it:
Some comments added more, from the autopsy on Newt to at least one thinking it wouldn't "undo Ripley's sacrifice" so that it was not pleasing aesthetically to that one.
The one who sent me that said the pirates of AR remind him of the crew of Firefly, and I can see that...in this case, he'd think the ideas Joss had to put away for a Newt-Alien hybrid would then transfer to River.
Again, just sharing for anyone who'd be more interested in it. I make no claims.
At least not about movie franchise. Though fun fact, this is perhaps the only franchise (outside of Japan anyway) where I prefer the comics to the movies. That is, for me it's Alien, Aliens, and then one specific comic series (they did more than one, don't feel like looking up details), and for similar reasons why I dislike Buffy comics. I felt the Alien comics (the ones I read) were truer to the character and story of the first two movies than the movies that came after the 2nd one.
