All three Buffy, Angel and Firefly comics canceled. Relaunch to be announced.

Mistery solved:
All Buffy, Angel and Firefly comics have been cancelled.

Acording to Bleeding Cool, there will be a relaunch of all three series, both Buffy and Angel with more pages at no additional cost.

While it seems that the reason for cancelation of both Buffy and Angel books is due to apparent creative reasons, nothing has been said regarding Firefly

Cancelled Buffy & Angel Comics Will Return, But Bigger. Also Firefly.

This franchise (and the Earth) is doomed.

We will be expecting for some updated in the coming days.
 
So... they're not really cancelled, but postponed whilst they make the intended issues larger? At least that's what they seem to be saying, and not that the stories are being changed either, just larger than planned?
 
Well... They're technically canceled, which is important in preview's terms.

They seem to say that there will be resoliciting in the future, so I assume previous orders of solicited comics should be understood as canceled.
 
Well, my guess would be that they expect to make the most money and sell the most copies on the first issue, so they want to make an impact, which seems reasonable. As far as making a comic book about a 30 year old TV show can be called, reasonable.
 
Even when Buffy was showing, comics would have been an "...and also" way of making money from the IP.
 
Wow! It seems that anything Buffy related has been having a rough time of it lately. Between restarts getting pushed back or canceled and loosing some of the cast members it's like the universe is doing all it can to keep it buried.
So what evil force is causing all this interference and mayhem?
 
So it's either a quiet cancellation or some weird comic book distribution issue that nobody outside of a recently retired Diamond employee actually understands? Stay tuned.

Hmm, I wonder if "Stay Tuned" could be canoned into the Buffyverse? I mean, it's just Persona 4 with Ted, right?

Yep. They're are also important in terms of support for a comic series. Often, comic publishers base the decision of going on with a comic book or not bases on preview's number of solicitations.
I also have to wonder how a Firefly comic got tied up in this. I mean, Buffy and Angel generally have to be done in tandem, sure. But Firefly has nothing to do with either, except for the Joss connection.

P.S. I mean, I would never want to make anything for Firefly. Any ideas I have for Firefly would work just as well in an original setting, and I wouldn't have to deal with the rights holders. Buffy has some toys worth playing with, Firefly does not.
 
My main hypothesis is that the reference point for the new Buffyverse in comics was the new TVs. As it was canceled, it is likely that Thompson is reorienting her plans in other direction, maybe the original TVs.

But we will see...

That's possible. Like, they wrote a pilot story, which could either work as a bridge for the reboot or as it's own thing. After the Reboot died, they decided to go with it's own thing, but they wanted to add some more material to it, which just got out of control. But again, who knows?
