Well, balogna has its place too. My dog loves it.
I find most people who are Bangels watched the show from the beginning, old school fans, and Spuffies found the show after Angel left.

Alot people are finding the show be accident on reruns and stuff and since there are more seasons withouth Angel than with him the it's more likely you miss the first 3 seasons.

To be honest I think it is just this board with the overpopulation of Spuffies. Bangel is a force of nature throughout the net.

I'd like to test that. I was a fan from the first airing and I did
ship Bangel at first but when Spuffy came along I shipped that. (Not that it didn't take some build-up and convincing, either!)

Truly, I hadn't ever watched the show, and can't remember even knowing of its existence, until a friend was going to be out of town and asked me to tape "Once More With Feeling" for him. That episode hooked me, and since FX was showing two episodes at a time morning and afternoon in syndication, I got caught up quickly on just what was going on. So, yes, my first exposure to the show was during the beginning of the Spuffy relationship, but I can't really swear that, if I had watched from the beginning, I would have ever supported the belief that Angel was "The One." I just never saw any real fire between the two characters. Tears, yes. Pain, yes. Frustration, yes. But no real passion. I'm just not a fan of stories about tightly bridled love.

Props for your very insightful posts. (:

Wow, really well said! At first I did like Bangel, but there came a day when I sat down and after the crossover episode "I Will Remember You" I kind of had enough. Season 3 was bad, in my opinion, because of the Bangel-ness. I think my like for it started deteriorating during that, even though I very much wanted to continue shipping it, it was pretty hard. Puffy and Briley never worked out for me (goodness, Riley was annoying) and Spuffy was pretty damn awesome. It's like my transition from Ozlow to Tillow, just a very different process.

I'm not saying that everyone who watches from the start is a Bangel and those who catch the post Bangel years are Spuffy it's just a little common trait I've noticed from alot of fans, not every fan.

Well, my mama always said that I was special.

Haha, really? For me it's the opposite, for some reason. Although I do my best to convert Bangels to Spuffies, ha ha.

Don't waste your time Ellyce - many have tried & all (probably) have failed to convert those nasty, dirty Bangel away from the dark-side to the wonders of Spuffy! ;)
I really liked Cordelia and Xander..but my favourite is Fred and Wesley.

I actually have managed to do this. 🙂 *happy state* Not that it wasn't without a lot of work, though!

My all-time favorites would have to be:

1] Spike/Buffy and Angel/Darla

2] Angel/Cordelia

3] Tara/Willow

4] Fred/Wesley

5] Spike/Drusilla

I agree with them all aprt from Cangel.
This is very difficult! I don't think anyone could choose one. I voted for Spuffy, but I loved Angel and Darla. In a way, I feel they had the most intense and complicated relationship.
And Tara and Willow? What I can I say?? I love them.

I love all the couples for different reasons. 🙂

I've observed this as often true as well. Although, I did watch the show from the beginning, and was never really into Bangel. I agree they did very much love eachother - but a I've said before - it could never work in the long run. They have the ultimate "forbidden love" as Cordy would say. It all comes down to Buff taking control of her sexuality - she wants a guy she can sleep with. Nothing wrong with that ...w/o them turning evil. (This is where Riley and Spike come in 🙂
Plus, both Buff and Angel are champions. They have more important things to do then chase after their love for eachother. They're champions 🙂 True heros alway have diffisult love lives...common theme there.

So anyway, in my case, initially, I was a big Briley person. I was so sad when they broke up! It just seemed so wasteful. They had so much potential. Of course, then Spike and her got together...and as twisted as it was, I loved it 🙂

Of course, me trying to discuss Spike on any level should probobly jut be discounted because I am so bias. I LOVE Spike. I really do. I love him as evil, as chipped, as souless and ensouled. So don't listen too me. 🙂

What was I originally saying? Oh, Bangel and Spuffy.

So, I got my mom into the series...and she's almost done with the 5th season of Angel. And she too started from the beginning and still likes Spuffy better than Bangel (poor Briley never seems to make the cut).

BANGEL. Of course. Definitely my most favourite. 🙂

Closely followed by Xanya and Ozlow and Fresley and Cordelia/Doyle...

Though Tillow is very cute, too. 🙂 And I liked Cander. And I could potentially like Spaith. 😉

I watched it from the begining (originally was very disappointed that there was no Pike in the show...) and i'm certainy Spuffy. Buffy and Angel were sweet and i liked it while it was happening but it never grabbed me the way Spuffy did.
In my travels around the internet and experience with the fandom I would think its still pretty evenly split between 'Bangle', 'Spuffy' and 'Other'. However, Bangle always gets the attention from main-stream, non-fan related media (like when Buffy appears in a list of greatest tv shows for example) and thus it creates the impression that it is the 'one true ship' and dominates all others. Insiders know this is not necessarily the case.

1 Angel/Darla/fanged 4 relationship

2 Spike/Drusilla

3 Fred/Wesley

4 Anya/Xander
