I had a discussion with friends earlier tonight and I thought I'd start a thread here. Keep in mind this is supposed to be a friendly discussion, so take it easy.

So which gender is the alpha one? You may use any criteria(s) to make your decision. 🙂 And give us a little explanation on why you choose female OR male.

I've got to say I still find the humourisation of the gender inequality crisis to be offensive. The more that people try to make something to laugh at - the less seriously people take it. As far as I'm concerned any type of sexism isn't overly funny... Just saying.

The Alpha sex according to Mother Nature is the male (in humans). And wow, hasn't it been great?

The prison population in something like 90% male. Murderers are 90% male. Males who ran countries in the 20th Century were responsible for 100,000,000 deaths (or more--I'm too lazy to google) . Males are considerably more violent towards other humans. Etc, etc, etc........

Perhaps it's time to mess with Mother Nature and let females run the planet. 😉

But then, there are different kind of smarts. Would you say Gunn had much more street smarts than Fred, for example? There are always so many variables.

Gunn was street but I don't even know if I consider him actually really street smart...I guess more so then Fred but eh.......If we're gonna talk smarts then we need to factor in every type of genius and come up with an overall....and overall I would say Fred is still smarter then Gunn however maybe somebody like Wesley can compete if we're talking overalls

Just cause your from the street doesn't mean your street smart just to let you know. And I'm not saying Gunn wasn't portrayed as street smart cause he was since he was smart enough to survive and lead a vamp hunting gang without resources.

But I wouldn't call him a genius in the field cause to me one of the biggest qualifications for being street smart is understanding the nature of people and having complete knowledge of your surroundings and he seemed a mess when dealing with "that old gang of mines" and wasn't efficient enough to realize a simple trap in his own hood that turned his life around with his sister. He was also fooled by Gwen that time, etc. To me he's street smart sure but I wouldn't call him a genius in the field cause if there is anything you learn from the street...it is recognizing cons and he's been bamboozled a few times on amateur-ish things IMO.

I know that alpha often describes the leader but not sure if that's all to it. When it comes to a good old discussion about men vs women I'm on the womens side though. Any gender (not 100% of it but too many and often the most vocal ones) that think strength is what make you superior (stronger, faster or that "survival of the fittest" mean that the strongest survive.) is more than a little behind when it comes to evolution.

As for being smart we can always start with this.

I guess there are limits after all when someone that likes to be rude and that from time to time tell people to get a tougher skin and not take offense think a subject is offensive. I like limits so don't take that the wrong way.

Well I come down firmly on the side of equality. I still don't really find it an appropriate conversation. How would people feel I started a thread with Alpha race? Lets all have a good old laugh about whether white people are superior to black people shall we? Or how about straight people are more superior then lesbians?

I said I was for limits and I never said I thought it was wrong in this case. Not everyones limits are the same though which can be a good thing to remember. We react passionate about different things.

Can we please add asians? They're my favourites. That's not trying to be funny, I actually mean it. That I like asians. The adding part wasn't serious since I know we won't discuss it.

Is it ok to discuss swedes vs norwegians? The same race but we make fun of them and I'm sure they make fun of us. But I guess it isn't. Aussies never make fun of the people of New Zealand are they? Is that ok or not? Not taking a side, just trying to find out the limits.

We talk about how sexy people are and how much drooling is done when Spike is shirtless. That's just in fun and not sexiest at all. Right?

Blonde jokes? Fat, ugly or people with disabilities. What is ok to discuss or make jokes about and does it matter if they can read/hear it or not?

Or how about straight people are more superior then lesbians?

If we have members that think that (sadly the thought exists in the world) I'd be all for a discussion. As long as it can be civil. Which isn't always easy. Vegan debates sure has proved that around here. 🙁

This thread is not serious in that way...Tome didn't write a thread on Men being smarter or anything like that. If anything I would imagine since mostly females are on the boards that men would come out "dumber". And its really a thread to have fun and given an opportunity to showcase the intelligent women or men that you may look up to.

And like I said since the board is mostly female, I was hoping to see great examples of intelligent, important females to show how foolish a certain sex being smarter really is. Instead your taking it a little too serious. And on the other thread ideas....people joke with my culture/race being inferior all the time at work, or hanging out and I laugh it off as the joke that it is cause I don't believe it myself and know they don't so why get mad?

I agree with you on certain things Cait, but this one I'm not understanding really. BTW Why aren't there any Puerto Ricans on Star Trek?...Cause in the future they still don't have jobs! Zing 😀

There is no alpha gender. Both genders have their strengths and weaknesses but you can't definitively ever put one ahead of the other.

Men might have some greater Alpha tendencies by virtue of society simply expecting them to be more Alpha. If you support aggression and leadership more strongly over the centuries in one gender, it stands to reason that it will appear to be so. People tend to become what they are expected most of the time, however unfortunate....

Now, in reality, if we are just going on sex organs alone...the vagina is of superior design. It bleeds without dying, it can be kicked without reducing it's owner to a pile of mush, and it can stretch big enough to allow another human out. And they are just pretty. So, because of vagina, women win. 😉
