Okay, everyone please calm down. This thread is not intended - and please correct me if I'm wrong about this Tome - to poke fun at gender inequality. The OP is simply asking that people NOT take the topic to the point of offense at what people say.

It's a valid question: whether one gender is dominant. I would think the feminists that exist on this board would have a lot to say on how that has changed and whether one is in practice still dominant over the other. That's the entire point of feminism, isn't it, to overturn dominance in favor of equality in practice?

Also, please remember that we've had plenty of feminism threads on the board, and none of the males have ever complained that it was belittling them...they haven't created a "Man Thread" here, just a thread about the current state of gender dominance.

Everyone complains that we don't have mature topics here - I really don't want to have to close another thread because people can't have a discussion without getting upset.

So . . . I read the title of the thread and all I could think about is my dogs. Obviously that's where my brain goes when I think Alpha.

I think structurally men were made to be dominant physically in most cases but! In today's society a lot more goes into what makes a person the "alpha." Men can have all the strength but they can also decide not to do anything with it. Same with women. I think the playing field has evened out a bit over the years. Which is awesome.

And! Side note: My home is Alpha Female because the dogs recognize me as the dominant member of the household. I lead this pack. Which I find hilarious! And it makes my husband scowl. Which makes it even more hilarious!

Honestly I think it's too difficult to give a blanket answer to this type of question.... ultimately I don't think there is an alpha gender.... so many thing to consider both on the individual and on the community levels. And then of course there's the matter of base biology/physiology versus cultural conditioning....

I do think that women tend to be attractive (I don't mean beautiful - though, there is that 🙂) in that they attract...they're energy is more to pull in.... men, on the other hand have an energy that's more aggressive more... penetrative. I think sex can be a metaphor for how we really are - in some ways.

But I think society has warped a lot of of basic essences... and it's all sort of diluted and confused and it's really hard to tease out what is what.




And on a less serious note:
In the end, I think we can all rely on what we learned when we were very young.

"Boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider
Girls go to Mars to get more candy bars"

and really who doesn't love candy bars.

That should settle it, don't you think?

Just to clarify, I made this thread for a mix of serious and playful discussion. Take arabella and Goby posts for example. 😉 I know this is a sensitive topic for some people, but please take it easy, it wasn't meant to be a place to make fun of gender inequality(everyone who knows me know I hate inequalities). I'm surprised there aren't more votes for females, though. 😱 The previous thread was heavily tilted in their favor! 😉 Come on gals, vote!

Anyway, for me it's a really tough question. Is there really an alpha gender? Is it even fair to compare males and females of the human species, when you know that for centuries most women were held in a position where they couldn't exploit their potential fully? I know that alpha is usually used for the strongest/leading person in a group, but in this case we're talking about the genders in general. From my own experience, women seems to have an easier time communicating and leading others. They're also better at multi-tasking(keep in mind this is in general, I'm not saying some men aren't better at it, and vice versa) in most scenarios. Obviously men are still stronger physically(generally), but does physical strength really means that much for humans nowdays? For some people it still does, but personally I don't think it matters much anymore. Oh and I know not everyone will agree on this part, but the fact women are the ones who have the babies, and researches have proven men aren't required to make them anymore... Well this doesn't sound too good for us in the future, haha. 😛 😉
