Haha, for a very long time I didn't knew the two were together! It was such a great surprise for me! Satyana? Well why not? This name keeps in your mind... but still sounds crazzy! And if I could choose between a Homebirth and a birth in hospital... I think I know what I would have chosen!

Homebirth is very safe, but in the U.S. it is still considered an "out there" kind of choice. In the U.S. when births moved from home to the hospital at the beginning of the 20th century, midwives did not follow. Midwives were often maligned by the medical establishment, and still are. That is not what happened in a lot of other industrialized countries. In many European countries, homebirth is still quite common, and even in hospitals midwives attend most of the low-risk births. Obstetricians are reserved for higher-risk or complicated births, or births neccessitating a cesarean section. The cesarean section rate in the U.S. is quite high (34%).

Lol, my eyes grew the to the size of saucers at the title of this thread. To me homebirth just seems... crazy. Lol, 😀, I guess I just like the sterility and 'saftey' feeling of hospitals and being surrounded by professionals. Nothing against midwives I just... yeah I don't know.

I've done it both ways and homebirth is SO much better. Two words: bacterial infection. Hospitals are so NOT sterile.
I know it will never be a decision, but my vote goes to Leboyer's labour method and water birth 😀 "Babies have eyes and see, have ears and hear, but we welcome them with strong voices and lights"
 
Oh my god, home birth? Lots of drugs and doctors for me, please! 😀 but props on those who makes this IMO brave choice 🙂

Considering this document, it seems that the "brave" option is to birth in U.S. hospitals! Homebirth midwives are trained childbirth professionals and know how to screen for high-risk moms for whom a hospital birh would be it better. They also are trained to know when a transfer is necessary. I delivered all 3 of mine in a hospital but often think that I might have avoided possible unnecessary intervention with the 1st & 2 subsequent cesareans. The U.S. has a high cesarean rate and induction rate that is hard to justify.

I actually thought it was funny! 🙂. The fact is that no matter where you birth, you will probably poop in front of someone. Just a fact. 😀

Yes, the World Health Organization actually recommends rates no higher than 10-15%. When rates dip lower than that (like in countries that don't have adequate resources) we see increased maternal & infant morbidity & mortality. When rates go higher, we also see those things increase, due to risks of major abdominal surgery on mother & baby.

Lol. Although I understand the situation & feel some sympathy, I still think that it's a crappy way to make health decisions. Also I read a really good series of blog articles on the malpractice issue. Goby, we're actually just starting a discussion with the major malpractice insurers in our state over the issue of VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). (When I say "we" I'm referring to the other ICAN chapter leaders & I but we will probably eventually include other birth professionals & advOcates. ICAN is International Cesarean Awareness Network). In 2005 they banned their doctors from attending VBACs & since they insure 80-90% of our state's docs, our VBAC rate has plummeted from 22% to 2%. Anyway, I won't bore everyone with all the details and I know you don't do med mal law, but we do have a member who is an attorney and has done a lot in the past, so she is a valuable asset to us lol!
 
I apologize if I offend with my comment. Home birth isn't (to my knowledge) common AT ALL in my country, if one choosed to do so I think it would be considered very controversial. That's where my reaction came from, the discourse about it in Sweden. I have a lot of faith in doctors and nurses and that they know what they are doing and wouldn't to anything that wasn't justified. But really, I don't know enough about home birth to have a opinion against it. I don't. I would just prefer to have my children in a hospital, that's what feels safest to me. Others who feels differently are free to do so. 🙂

Buffy the Vampire Slayer alums Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof went for a romantic stroll in New York City on Tuesday (April 3). Earlier in the day, the happy couple were spotted with their adorable 3-year-old daughter Satyana. The family were seen in midtown Manhattan where they lunched at Park Avenue Spring restaurant and shopped at Bergdorf Goodman and FAO Schwarz.

To start off her busy day, the expectant How I Met Your Mother star was seen doing some interviews to promote her new movie American Reunion.

In February, Celebrity Baby Scoop had the opportunity to sit down with Alyson and ask a few questions about her pregnancy.

CBS asked: Are you planning another home birth with a midwife? Did you receive lots of negative comments about your choice to have a home birth?

Yes, that is the plan," Alyson replied. "Hopefully all will go well. And yes, we had lots of comments about it. And we had the doctor that scared us tremendously. There was definitely more concern the first time around. For me, that was just the perfect place. I am absolutely terrified of hospitals. so I think that the home is the best place for me to feel comfortable. I had a midwife, her assistant and a doula. It will be the same again this time."

Alyson and Alexis expect baby No. 2 this summer.
