Question Am I missing something?

Lindsay resurrected him?

I have got to rewatch that season.
 
From what I recall, it was simply to hurt and distract Angel. Making Spike a hero and Angel seem like less of one, making Angel doubt it was he who was suppose to Shanshu.

I can't recall if Lindsey found out that Angel figured out that it was he an Eve who brought back Spike and had to hurry, or if Lindsey simply decided it was time, but Lindsey then tried to kill Angel with that thing in You're Welcome.

I didn't see it as Lindsay resurrecting Spike. I thought his being transported with the Amulet was a Senior Partners thing that Eve had fore-warning of, thereby allowing Lindsay and her to develop a plan around it. The Amulet was meant to come back to Angel and WR&H for the Senior Partners purposes (why not monopolize the two vampires with souls), and Lindsay and Eve simply act as intelligent leeches. That's just how I saw it.

Could be it. I assumed that Lindsey did something to the amulet to suck Spike in and resurrect, but your theory is just as realistic.

I thought it was just to mess with Angel...though to be honest, Lindsey's arc in Season 5 is so confusing and weird to me that I don't really get it either. 😛
 
I thought that the whole amulet/burning up/coming back incorporeal and attached to the W&H Building was a Senior Partners scheme to get control of Angel. When Buffy chose someone else as her Champion, that ruined the S P's plans, since they had no reason to try and control Spike. Eve found out about the foul up, told Lindsey, and he came up with a plan to exploit the situation. But that's all that Lindsey did: take advantage of an existing situation.

Right, I forgot that they probably assumed Angel would wear it. Clever. I wonder if Angel wasn't clever enough to have something in his contract about W&H not being allowed to do stuff like that to him though. Although, they did just give him the means to trap himself, they didn't do it to him... Might not count as W&H hurting Angel.

They probably had a loophole all ready. Then came Spike.

I think that you could describe Angel as sincere, dedicated, and a person committed to doing good as he sees and interprets it. But clever? Nah-h-h-h-h.

Even though he's done some very very dumb stuff, he also been very clever in the past. Sometimes he's very smart. And sometimes he's very dumb. It's anyone's guess really, what he put in the contract.

LOL WA, now I know you're not dissing my boy! I think Angel is clever/smart enough, I just think he gets a little (OK, a lot) obsessed with his own plans. He wears blinders a lot.

I agree with WA on this. I don't think Lindsay did anything but take advantage of an opportunity to get in Angel's head and screw with him.
 
Now, I had always thought that it was the Senior Partners who resurrected Spike. After all, the amulet appeared to come from them. But now I'm thinking it does make more sense that it was Lindsey and Eve. They were the ones who wanted to interfere with the whole "vampire with a soul" prophecy, and several episodes show them using Spike in exactly this way.

So yeah, it's somewhat unclear who brought Spike back in AtS Season Five, just as it's unclear who brought Angel back in BtVS Season Three. The suspects seem to be Lindsey/Eve, the Senior Partners, and the Powers that Be. I had always thought it was the Senior Partners, but I just hadn't thought it through. From a standpoint of motive, it actually seems that Lindsey and Eve were the ones who had so much interest in interfering with the prophecy that they do make more sense than the Senior Partners. (It still seems that it could be the Powers that Be who brought Spike back, though. His role was much like Cordelia in You're Welcome, bringing Angel back to his mission and away from the plans the Senior Partners had for him.)
 
I think that it was the senior partners who brought Spike back and Eve and Lindsay used it to their own advantage, the senior partners always wanted Angel dark so it makes more sense to me that they would have wanted to use Spike to help that happen. Lindsay wanted Angel dead not dark. There are many things in season five that were left unanswered because of the shows premature finish.
 
A package arrived for Angel. Angel opens the package taking out the amulet and POOF! out pops Spike. His soul was within the amulet so when it was opened his soul was freed. The only thing I don't remember is who discovered the amulet in Sunnydale. I'll have to re-watch the episode when I do my Angel re-watch.

I don't think that's ever mentioned, but Lindsey claimed it was the PTB that brought back Spike, no? Could be a lie, of course, but I don't think we're ever told otherwise. Maybe the writers wanted us to think it was Lindsey?

Interesting theory. Tell me more. Do you think they expected him to have a bad influence on Angel? Or simply be another thing that upset Angel?
 
It's a strong possibility. I never believed a word that came out of Lindsey's mouth. He was a compulsive liar who worked for an evil corporation. Not exactly the most reliable source.
