one: some one said i am sick of people saying no soul = bad. the cannon is when you become a vampire you lose your soul, then you can not not not be good. jeese started killing people when became a vimpire, willow became a monster. dru (spike girl) was going to be a nun when became a vimpire started killing people. every vimpire was evil. there was not one good one. becouse they could not be good.
this is important for two reason. one that is the only way buffy can kill them. she kills vimpires that just wake up and have done nothing wrong. becouse they will be evil, not they might be evil. second. they may act good some times but they are not. there has been a lot of time a vimpire will pretend like he is good. the vimpire that buffy talk to in season 7 then then he tried to kill her.
second spike did some good. but he was doing evil, selling deamon eggs that kill people, trying to kill a girl when he thought his chip did not work, trying to rape buffy. here is one form season 5 when dru came back and killed a train full or people spike took buffy to the wrong palce and let dru go. he let a murder go did not care how many poeple she kill.

Im 50/50 on this season. The first half of the season was very good imo but then after the musical happened everything just went downhill from there imo with it picking up a little bit the last few episodes.
There was just to much darkness, Buffy/Spike went over the edge, Buffy cutting her hair and being so emo.

I've done my rant on s6 as well. See thread "Worst Season?" to me it was never the same after Giles left (then I'm biased) and some of the episodes were terrible. There were a few that were ok but not great. Buffy's treatment of Spike was horrible and she had no respect for him. Some people think "SpuffY" is true love?
Sometimes I don' t like Xander for the way he treated Spike...because he knows Spike can't hurt him. IMO.

I disagree. He treated Angel pretty much the same way, when Angel had no such restraint (Angel's soul didn't actually [i]prevent[/i] him from killing, just gave him the incentive to choose not to.)

Lets not make Spike the victim here, its not like he treated Buffy so greatly. All the times she refused him and he kept on pressing the matter of them hooking up and going all stalker on her.
Spike knows that Xander never liked him and Xander never had a reason to like him. Spike knew what he was getting himself into when hanging around with the Scoobies.

I consider it to be one of the best seasons of the series. In fact, I like Seasons 5-7 a lot, because they seemed to symbolize Buffy's road to adulthood.

Despite the darkness that Season 6 culminates, it was truly needed for what the characters were going through. Nothing is going to be sunshine and rainbows when you've brought your friend back from the dead, or are the friend brought back from the dead, are going through a terrible addiction, planning a stressful wedding, growing up a teenager with the powerful people around you, or battling with being a good man or an evil demon. Everyone had so much crap going on that I think the characters brought the darkness of the season upon themselves. But, who can blame them? Put yourselves in any of the characters shoes and you can probably understand the trauma they were all going through.
Right now, I'm the same age as Buffy was in Season 6 (my bday is in January, so I always thought it was cool her birthday episodes were around the same time as mine, lol), and I have no idea how I would handle being ripped out of heaven and forced to live on earth again. I can't even begin to imagine what she's going through. And considering her mom passed away and her other parental support, Giles, left, I'm surprised Buffy handled everything as well as she did and didn't do anything worse than use Spike to 'feel' like she was alive. And calling her selfish? She pretended she was perfectly fine and even thanked Willow for bringing her back, even though she was suffering. It's no surprise she turned to Spike because she didn't want to disappoint her friends. I think that's rather selfless of her. She pretended to be okay so that her friends wouldn't worry about her. She just wanted to see them happy again, despite how much she was suffering inside. Of course, I do realize all this changed after her secret got out in OMWF.
Anyway, I liked Season 6. I personally love 6 but I can understand your disinterest in it. The Spike/Buffy sexual relationship was distrurbing and destructive, but it stood for something more important: Buffy's self hatred that she was taking out on Spike. Their little tryst (which only went on for like, what, 5 eps?) was more symbolic, I think. Anyone agree?
I liked a lot of the episodes in 6. I liked Dawn, and the plot. Yes, it was dar - but so is reality. Joss said the Big Bad in 6 was life. I think this really sums it up. Buffy is trying to deal with coming back from the dead and dealing with adult issues after her mothers death. I think 6 really brought out a lot of the characters real selves, and placed them in real life situations.

I love S6. It's in my top three favorite seasons. And I'm probably going to end up repeating some things here, but with such a long thread, won't we all? XP
The Spike/Buffy relationship makes sense to me. Did I like it? No, I felt horrible for Spike and annoyed with Buffy. Was it disgusting? Yes, but it was supposed to be. But did it make sense, how it happened and why? Yes. Buffy was emotionally numb this season. Being ripped out of heaven left her feeling nothing...and people do some pretty weird things when they feel nothing. As she said time and time again, she just wanted to feel SOMETHING...having sex with a guy that's in love with you, even though it completely disgusts yourself, is definitely "something" to feel. Was it right of her? I don't think any of us can say using somebody is "right"....but Buffy didn't think it was right, either! She knew it was wrong, she hated herself for it, but even that was better than feeling nothing. I think the writers definitely wanted the relationship to bother/disgust us. That was the point.
I do think the Scoobies were too hard on Spike, but at the same time I don't think you can say "But Angel was evil once too!" Angel with a soul is not the same person as Angelus without one. With a soul, Angel is a new man, a changed man, he has a conscience and a moral compass. Without one, Angel is dead, and the demon Angelus wears his face. Spike with a chip is still Spike with a chip. As Buffy once said, he's like a serial killer in prison. He's a vicious dog held back on a leash. Or, at least, he was this at first. It's been pointed out already, but what was the first thing Spike tried to do after thinking the chip wasn't working? Vamp some girl. Angel would never have done that...Angelus maybe, but not Angel. And I don't really see where you're getting that Angel was more forgiven than Spike. I don't think Giles ever truly forgave him. I think he tolerated him for Buffy's sake, but we have no evidence to suggest that all was right between Giles and Angel. And Xander? Xander is and always has been a total jerk where Angel's concerned. Willow...she basically behaved the same toward both Angel and Spike. She wouldn't even let Spike stake himself, remember? Now, granted, I do think Spike became "less" evil...but I think the Scoobies' problem with this was, it was all because he was being held back. He's violent by nature and he could only attack demons, so what choice did he really have but to fight beside Buffy? They may have been unfair at times, but if the chip ever did stop working, I don't think any of us could say for certain Spike wouldn't start killing humans, especially during moments of rage or frustration. I love Spike as a character, but even I could admit that. You can't compare a government chip to a soul...it actually annoyed me when Dawn made the comparison herself.
I also think Buffy was extra hard on Spike because, as I said, she was disgusted with herself. She was putting all her feelings about their relationship and her actions onto him. "You're disgusting, you're bad, you're nothing." And I agree with whoever said that when she was pummeling him, she was actually pummeling the part of herself that was behaving that way.
Season Six was totally about growth and development and growing up. It was all about fighting inner demons (Xander's feeling about marriage and fear of ending up like his parents, Anya becoming a vengeance demon again, Buffy/Spike, Dawn and her kleptomania, Giles and his torn feelings about being a father figure, Willow and her addiction to magic, etc etc.) That's why there wasn't a "big bad"....each of them had their own unique internal big bad to fight. I think the season is brilliant, especially since a lot of episodes and themes make us so uncomfortable. That's what a truly great TV show, movie, book, whatever should do. Make you wince, and come back again to see what happens next.

i have'nt read all of your post but perosnally i liked season 6,everybody has there own opinions and i respect that but i must say that i'm glad they didn't end at season 5 cus i didn't like that season too much (soz i no alot of you do but i didn't lol).i enjoyed the darkness of season 6 and willow being overcome by dark magicks was a very powerfull message that any one can be suduced by power.i'm wasn't much os a buffy and spike together fan at start but what you have to remeber is buffy had just been brought back from heaven, ripped back into what would seem like hell again, this would be extremly hard to cope with and she may have felt like the living dead just as spike would be.this allows her to find a comfort and understanding in spike no one else around her would understand.

I can relate to the things the OP said but havent read thru to join the conversation, i will be back though. I kept hurting for Spike. And could not see why buffy shouldnt love him or at least assept each other as bunk buddies from time to time. But let me digest this topic and return. Just wanted to chime in...btw i am Disk one epi 4 at the moment, for my second go. so ill be like, doign my homework before i get back.......lol

Well, i love season 6. In fact that is my favourite season. So i can't see why you don't like it. My fav episodes: Once more with feeling and Tabula Rasa (both from season 6). Then, it's in this season when the buffy bot appears. (and btw i LOVE the buffybot). I also loved the dark willow episodes. And we've got a lot of spuffy sceans.. season 6 rocks :cheering:

*nitpickin'* Buffybot first appears in Season 5's "Intervention"
I hated Season 6 when it first aired ( I was 16), but after I bought the DVD set and watched it a second time I liked it better. And a few years later when I was going through the same kind of life crisis and hopelessness that the characters were experiencing I found it oddly therapeutic (things are better now). I'm glad not every Season is that dark but I really like Season 6 now.

I love Buffybot (no, that wasn´t creepy or dirty at all people. Get a grip!). But that´s not why season 5 & 6 are my favourites. I have to admit, the first time I watched the show (all seasons) the highschool years were my favourite. Not any more. Not sure if I prefer season 5 or 6 though.
And talking about Buffybot. Intervention was "her" episode but lets not forget that she also (kind of) helped defeat Glory.

In my opinion, series 6, as with every other series all goes to making the buffy universe what it is. I think that yes it was different to the others, but thats what makes it great. Its a little darker and the fact that Willows character goes through a big change is great.
I dont think its the best, but i dont think any are bad or rubbish.

Though I enjoyed season 6, I pretty much agree with the original post. As time went on, I got really tired of Xander's hypocracy. I mean, he was with Anya (whom I adore, don't get me wrong) but who used to be a vengance demon, who killed bunches of people. What does he do once she becomes a vengance demon again? Does he get all excited about killing her like he would Spike or Angel? Of course not, why would he? As for Buffy and Spike, I saw Spike's chip a lot like a soul as well, only gave him more credit because he had to try to care. Despite his being unable to harm humans, he still could have cut a swath through the demon world, and even engineered "accidents" to hurt humans an then feed once they were dead. I get somewhat sick of Buffy's continual whining throughout the season. I get that she died to save the world, and I also can understand how hard it woul be to get over it? I feel like this season really showed me what I dislike about Buffy, she's selfish and I really got tired of it. And I really hated it that Spike became the whipping boy for the seson. He proved himself over and over, heck, he babysat Dawn, when he didn't have to, it wasn't his chip making him help out, it was him being nice, despite not having a soul. To me, that redeems him an awful lot.

She accepts her Slayer duty when she doesn't have to...she gave up her future (at a good college, getting a good job, etc) and a lot of friends and a normal life to defend innocent people. She killed the man she loved to save the world. Sure, she gets a bit woe-is-me and weight-of-the-worldy, but c'mon, she's the Slayer. She's allowed to feel a bit overwhelmed, alone, and important sometimes. And in this season, yes, she was a bit whiny...she was depressed. People typically aren't fun to be around when they're depressed, and I don't think we can blame Buffy for that.
But I've never understood when people call Buffy selfish.
