Am I the only one who loves Buffy Season 1 more than Season 2?

This is a very unpopular opinion but am I the only one who prefers Buffy Season 1 over Season 2? I love both seasons and I love the season 2 finale, but for some reason I always have the most fun watching all of Season 1 even the worse episodes like "I Robot You Jane" I enjoy. But I just love the young innocent and carefree attitude the Scooby Gang has. There isn't any major drama. It's just a bunch of high school teens enjoying their lives and battling the forces of Evil every week and weekend.

You probably are the only one! I totally see where you're coming from though. I think Season 1 is very much under rated and over looked. I always enjoy it on my re-watch and think the humour and general Scooby interactions are great. The big moments and full length of Season 2 swing it for me but Season 1 is great.

The joy of season one is the experimentalism, they really went all out with all the possible ideas for the show and lots of them were very good thought pieces, but there isn't much arc, there's a lot of loose ends (eggs anyone? and Buffy's good buds again with Xander after the Pack?) and because it's more about the ideas I never quite get the emotional connections that start to emerge later - until Prophecy Girl.
I think I still prefer S2 but I get where you're coming from...

*looks around* ...pretty much. 🙂

I do think that S1 is much lighter and frothier than S2. The only real dramatic angst comes at the end of the season. It's just a lot of people prefer the painful, growing up stuff on Season 2.

Looking at the list of episodes in s2 and the list of episode in s1, overall I think I watch s1 much more often than 2. S2 is actually pretty low on my list of fav seasons. Overall, I'd place them pretty even though.

What?! And I thought you had good taste lol.
S1 has a better ratio of good to bad episodes to S2, but I like the great episodes on S2 more. Plus, Angelus. The culmination of episodes with Angelus was better than the confrontation with the Master. Had S1 been longer, we might have had the chance to explore the character of the Master more, but as it stands...

Its not a contest for me. S1 is a solid opening season with a number of flaws. Quality wise the episodes are a mixed bag there are possibly only two maybe three which I dislike, but then there are only a couple which I truly love too. 2 has a much stronger overall arc, better big bads (who crucially are given the screen time needed), it has a lot more character growth (which I guess I would expect), has a good mix of light and dark, and has some of the best episodes from the whole show. Its Season two by a country mile for me.

Yea i like season 1, it's just fun and cheesy but season 2 just has a better story and villains. Although i do love The Master and wish we had got more of him. They both have really bad episodes though.

That's the thing which drags 2 down a bit for me. There are three or four really bad episodes (and that includes Go Fish stop defending it!😉) and their up there with some of the worse episodes ever. And its the reason why I'm not sure if its as good as five or four.
