I was just wondering if anyone here has one of these gadgets and if it is as good as advertised. It seems like a whole library in the palm of your hand.

They look quite good. Id leave it a year though, just to see how good they are and till it drops in price a bit. looks good though.

I got one for practicality. Only to discover I didn't like it. Haha. It's very convenient. Your wording WA of 'library in the palm of your hand' is very appropriate and it is excellent for that.
But after having one I found that I have a Giles view on the things and no matter how time-saving and convenient the kindle is, I hated reading off of it, and much prefer reading from the pages of an actual book.

But if that doesn't particularly bother you- the concept of reading off of a screen I mean- then it is worth it. Though I don't believe every book on Amazon is available as a kindleBook....I'm not sure.

I despise reading off of a screen. Whenever possible, when I'm researching and junk and find articles online, I print them out so I don't strain my eyes and can mark all over them. So I don't particularly want one of those things.

That was the exact conclusion I came to. But like I said, there's a convenience factor that appeals to a lot of people.

If the price comes down, I might get one, just for the convenience of not having to carry a lot of books when I travel. Right now, though, I can't see the use outweighing the price.

It is an awful lot of money. A ridiculous amount really. Luckily I got it half the price- some Loyal Customer 50% Holiday Discount thing.

Unfortunately, the hype is still up about it which in turn keeps the price up. Hopefully the hype will die down soon and the dollar signs along with it. In that case, it would be definitely worth it for traveling. I always find carrying an inordinate amount of books a pain too! But like you said, the price kinda outweighs the benefits right now.
