Ambassador Nigel Farage

If the goal is to be fully engaged with the United States. It's not my goal...I'm quite happy with Europe thanks!

The cultural difference between England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland has to be discarded. Try telling that to the English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish nationalists.

@nightshade - according to a report by Univ. of Manchester, you're a rarity if you're both!

@TriBel

Well, you may not know this, but Rupert Murdock and his family and media empire would say something different. If you also use the American business community, and how they used internal nationalism with Canada after World War II until Quebec decided not to become independent. With the United Kingdom leaving the European Union, I am sure the Murdock Media Empire will be increasing nationalism with the English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish nationalism. With the United Kingdom being fully out of the European Union without any connections. The more inflamed nationalism happens within the United Kingdom, it will weaken the value of the British pound, and the goal is to make it worth around 80 cents to the American dollar. With a weak pound, the media in the United Kingdom would be dirt cheap, and the Murdock Media Empire can pick up the assets at a cheaper price. Plus, other business icons can be purchased at a cheaper price too. Look what America did to Canada, the last I recall, 80% of the top 500 largest businesses in Canada is American owned. That happened because America inflamed Canada with nationalism with Quebec and crashed the Canadian dollar, and made it cheaper to purchase Canadian business communities. The same practice is in my fear, going to happen to the United Kingdom.

Being engaged with the United States, I see the United Kingdom with a weak currency, hyper nationalism, and more companies being owned by Americans.

Oh my goodness. Well I personally believe the cultural differences between the US and Mexico is negative to the rest of the world, so we should discard them also. We'll rename it Northern Mexico for you. Better start learning Spanish.

@Bluebird

The United States and Mexico has always had a difficult relationship. Every educated American understands the Mexican American war was just a land grab, and it is also the only war were Americans do not have any statutes supporting the American military in Washington DC or any other place in the country. If America did not have slavery, America would have been a much bigger country today. All of Mexico would have been within the United States, and Cuba, and maybe all of Canada.

True, America is dealing with English and Spanish, but speaking Spanish is just a short term problem. America had to deal with German, and other languages in the past. Like the Europeans, the parents did speak their native language but the children was able to learn English, and the grandchildren learned nothing from their grandparents. Even with the Europeans that came to America, people with say a German last name, have more understanding of English history, then have any understanding what was the Holy Roman Empire. It is a clear fact, you can be a German American, and do not know anything about the Holy Roman Empire.

Someone coming from Latin America today, in a century from now, their future family members will have little understanding about Latin America. And, they will speaking English. Thinking about languages, New York City has the most diverse level of languages any were in the world. But, when New York City use the media in local news, or in movies, they always display themselves as speaking English only. Whenever someone is speaking Spanish in America, you never see it being spoken in New York City, even that the city has a vast Spanish speaking community.

People in New York speak Spanish all the time. (Obviously, those that speak Spanish.) But the language of our country is English, so that's the language the main channel local news is going to be in. But there are tons of Spanish language tv channels, SAP, etc.

He supports that policy, in fact, he wants to and his party wants to increase the timetables with a weaker currency, hyper sectional nationalism, and a faster rate to have Americans to own every business icon -- it would like convincing the pope to be a catholic -- if I explain it to him. With Latin American countries, and with Canada, any political party that had full willingness to weaken their own currencies so American can purchase businesses and properties, and anything with value -- ended up being rejected by the voters, or, became a dictatorship and lost faith of their countrymen. What I see twenty years down the road, if there is still a United Kingdom, that it will be the sick man of Europe. For the past two years, I have been looking at the United Kingdom in the slow road to suicide, and I am unsure how violent the death is going to be.

All true, but, other language media does not become national in the mainstream media. Still, if I was going to be watching a movie and someone was speaking Spanish within the United States -- I will not be seeing it coming from New York City. Even that the city has the most diverse languages spoken any place in the world.

Again - I'm not disagreeing with you. I've heard it all before - Remain have been arguing this since day one. The thinking now seems to be that a No Deal Brexit could trigger a world recession. I don't know - I'm not an expert, just a relatively intelligent person that knows some stuff. The only satisfaction I'll get out of it is saying "I bloody told you so". 🙄

Here's one view from the UK (read BTL) Boris Johnson becomes the new PM after May quits

Here's another: Boris Johnson cabinet: Sajid Javid, Priti Patel and Dominic Raab given top jobs – live news

I'm actually half Welsh half English, but I prefer to say that I'm Welsh.

You can be both welsh and British. Britain is the country, wales is the part you're from. Just like a person can be both american and a texan. One does not exclude the other.

Also the EU want to cast Brexit as a terrible thing because they don't want any other countries getting the same idea. Sure, things may be hard in the short term, but in the long term it is likely to be better. Also the UK decided not to join the euro and it was supposed to be a terrible decision not to do so, yet it turned out to be the best decision the UK made. Boris Johnson threatening a no deal and being prepared to carry through is the best negotiating tactic to use, Ever taking no deal off the table was a stupid idea forced on May. Now is just the question of who is going to blink first.

Yes in much the same way "no deal is better than a bad deal!" and "Brexit means Brexit!" and "we're definitely leaving on 29th March!". Do you ever get tired of listening to it?

If there is a global recession, and the United Kingdom comes hat in hand and asking the United States for a bailout -- it is a flip of a coin if you will get the support from the House, and the Senate, that is going to be a hard lift to get 51 votes. I do not see any senator from any former confederate state granting a bailout. There is still a resentment that the United Kingdom did not support the Confederate States of America, not a major voting block, but a indifferent voting block, that can only see a bailout is only socialism for a socialist country that supports national health care and other socialist programs they would rather see fail. The Rocky Mountain states, a flip of a coin, because the vast majority was settled by people from the European Union than the United Kingdom. So, if the United Kingdom has good relationships with Nordic Europe, you can get their votes. The problem you will have, with the vocal Irish Catholics that has deep ties with Boston and other major city on the east coast. If the debate is a short debate, you could get the support from California and other states with a large Hispanic and Latino Americans. It is very possible, if there is a strong leader, they could be very vocal with a major demand. If the Hispanic and Latino Americans are organized, to get their support for a bailout to save the United Kingdom, the deal could be that the United Kingdom would have to give Gibraltar back to Spain.

We couldn't leave on the 29th March because No Deal was taken off the table and parliament wouldn't vote for May's deal so she couldn't move in any direction. Labour are already trying to line up a no confidence vote and push for a general election. If Brexit doesn't happen on the 31st October, the conservatives are going to get annihilated (as are Labour) and the Brexit party might win.

I'm fairly sure Wales is a country in its own right (the Welsh Government refer to it as "our country"). Great Britain is the name of the island ("Great" to distinguish it from Lesser Britain - which I think is Brittany). I don't think GB includes NI, which is why the full title is technically "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Wales isn't fully independent because they have a devolved government so you could probably call it a constituent country.

You know a General Election will be first past the post right? Like the one the Brexit Party lost earlier in the year in a strongly leave voting area.

You mean the one they narrowly lost despite being a newly formed party against an established older one?

I can attest to that! I lived in the U.S for two years! I was fluent in the language, but my friend who went with me was not. We went to New York, and she had no problem with not knowing English! We also had a lot of television in Spanish. And watching the U.S democratic debates...it seems even your politics are quite easy to understand as a Spanish speaker!
