OK - It was Ambers choice to not be a main character.
She liked the freedom of recurring so she could go off and do other things.
This has nothing to do with being fair.
The Seeing Red was more a thank you to such a wonderful character and actress, someone the fanbase seemed to like.
You want proof of this do a search of this very site and you'll find it stated with links numerous times.
Tara was a recurring character, was she not? Not a regular cast member.
Also I don't believe she was a bit more important than Oz was. So Willow had a lesbian relationship with her. Big deal.
And like I've said before, I don't even consider Tara to be a true Scooby, she never fit in with them, and anyone except Willow hardly ever talked to her, or knew her, and when she was there she just sat silently and awkwardly. Not saying I had anything against her but her character just didn't mesh very well with the others. (Except maybe when she was let in on Buffy's Spike secret in s6.)

YOU may not consider her to be a true scooby but she definitely was.
Season 4 she was Willows new Girlfriend.
Season 5 she was awkward with the group UNTIL Family where she was inducted into the fold. She then quickly became a confidante to Buffy by being able to understand her loss, she became important to Dawn when Buffy died and Xander and Anya included her in the private meetings when the Buffster was gone.
Season 6 she was again taken into Buffy's confidence, she became a mother figure to Dawn and the thing to keep Willow going in the end.
She fought along side the group when it counted and thats as much as anyone can do to be a Scooby.
