Sorry if I spelled the proffesions wrong, but I have a Pychology class I'm taking this semester in school and we all have to write a term paper on some kind of mental illness or treatment. I ended up getting suicide, but for me to use references for info, the person has to be a pychologist or pychiatrist or even someone suffering from the illness or whatever. Anyway, I was wondering as part of the guidlines to my paper, I need to find out how to tell the difference between a truely suicidal person and someone who "uses threats of suicide manipulativly." I was wondering if anyone could help me on this one. I can't find anything in my research at the moment. Thanks

well, I am niether, I am however taking classes on it, and hopefully one day will be.

I can say this, the biggest difference, between someone who uses it for manipulation and someone who is actually suicidal:

in a nutshell,

Manipulative* - Makes loud, obvious threats, makes sure everyone knows they are thinking of commiting suicide. More often then not, they cause themselves phisical harm, e.i. slashing of wrists, taking the wrong kind of pain killer, swallowing drano, type stuff.

Actual- people tend to withdraw into themselves, alot of the time, they act without warning, meaning, the people they are closest to, have no clue that they are even depressed.
