Trivia:
- The sequence with the Mutant Enemy mascot, the little monster that goes "Grr Argh" at the end of all episodes, was changed for a total of six episodes: in Becoming: Part 2 it said, 'Oh, I need a hug.", in Amends it wore a Santa hat and bells were jingling, Graduation Day: Part 1 it wore a graduation cap, in Once More, with Feeling it sang its "Grr Argh.", in Storyteller it sang, "We are as gods.", in Chosen it looked out at the viewers instead of looking straight-forward.
- This was the first time it has ever snowed in Sunnydale.
- This is the second time we have seen Jenny since Angel killed her in "Passion." The first time was when Drusilla cast a spell on Giles, manifesting herself as Jenny in "Becoming Part Two."
Goofs and Gaffes:
- Buffy and Angel are outside when the snowfall starts, you can hear someone walk next to them when there is nobody there.
- The First is often seen touching or caressing Angel, however it is later revealed in season 7 that the first is non corporeal and therefore would not have been able to touch anything.
- Despite the numerous mentions of how hot it was, many characters were wearing coats and warm clothes. Ironically, Southern California was having a heat wave around that time.
References:
- "Tree. Nog. Roast Beast." Roast beast is a reference to the Dr. Suess story How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Roast beast is the traditional Christmas dinner for the Whos, and has become a playful way of referring to roast beef.
- "And you got the Barry working for you." Barry White, a singer by whose songs many people have done "that thing."

Continuity:
- Oz refusing to sleep with Willow in this episode recalls his declining her offer to make out in "Innocence". Oz demonstrates again that he does not like doing things that he may want to do for the wrong reason. In this episode, Oz understands that Willow offers to sleep with him to show him that she is invested in their newly reestablished relationship, whereas in "Innocence", he believes she asks him to kiss her to make Xander jealous.
- Joyce continues to be awkward around even the mention of Giles, thus reminding the viewer of their psychologically youthful indiscretions in "Band Candy".
- Oz asks Willow has she ever had the dream "where you're in a play, and you're right in the middle of it and you kinda don't know your lines or the plot?" Willow has had this dream, or rather nightmare, as seen the episode "Nightmares", it became a reality for her in the episode "The Puppet Show". Willow would have this nightmare again during the episode "Restless".
- When Cordelia mentions Xander's family's "drunken Christmas fights", this is the first real hint in the series of Xander's unhappy home life, which is something that will be expanded on later in the series and become very significant in Season Six. Furthermore, Xander is explaining his "Christmas Tradition" to Willow, and it is Cordelia who remarks about his family's "drunken Christmas fights." Whedon himself claimed this to be an error in writing, as Willow and Xander have been best friends since childhood, and she already knows all about the Harris family. (This could be justified by saying that although Willow already knows about Xander's dysfunctional family, there are other people in earshot of the conversation who don't.)
- One of the forms the First takes when visiting Angel is that of a business man. Because of this man's distinguished American accent and twentieth century-style suit, he could not have been an early victim of Angel's--the vampire's soul was restored in 1898 in Romania, and it is understood that afterward Angel killed no one else. With this in mind, the man was probably a victim of Angelus during the brief period between the times when the gypsy's curse is broken"”causing the vampire once again to lose his soul"”in Season 2 episode 13 ("Surprise") and Willow's restoring it again at the end of the second season (episode 22, ""Becoming: Part Two").
- "Lovers Walk" "” There are numerous references to this episode, in which Oz and Cordelia found Willow and Xander kissing, and both couples broke up. This is why Willow assumes that her plans with Oz are off, why Willow thinks they should cut Cordelia some slack for being mean, and why Oz broke up with Willow (allowing for the get-back-together scene in this episode).
- "Becoming, Part Two" "” Giles says that Buffy may have to kill Angel, "again," referring to when she had to shove a sword through him and send him to hell in order to save the world from Acathla.
- "Revelations" "” Buffy tells Joyce that she and Faith aren't really talking or even making eye contact, meaning since "Revelations," in which they had one heck of a brawl, and in which Faith rejected Buffy's attempt at friendship, saying she didn't need anyone on her side but herself.
Arc Significance:
- This is the first appearance of the First Evil and the Bringers, who will not appear again until "Lessons", when it returns as the Big Bad of Season Seven.
- Buffy and Angel renew their relationship.
- The First tells Angel, "Sooner or later, you will drink her." This prediction comes true in "Graduation Day, Part Two".
- Jenny Calendar appears for the last time.
- Oz forgives Willow for her affair with Xander and they continue their relationship.

Christmas Buffy Promo
Immediately after the first airing of "Lovers Walk" was the first airing of a commercial that featured Gellar and Boreanaz as their characters, Buffy and Angel.
Promo synopsis
Buffy is standing outside at a phone booth. Strangely, it appears to be snowing in Sunnydale. Buffy says "This season with 1-800-COLLECT, you don't have to be alone for the holidays." She then begins dialing the phone. Buffy hears footsteps behind her. She turns and grabs a stake-shaped icicle, and makes a staking motion before Angel grabs her hand. Angel: "Sorry I'm late." Buffy replies, "You should have called." The two smile, look into the snowing sky, then walk off together.
Promo offer
The promo was offering fans the chance to enter a sweepstakes every time they made a call using the 1-800-COLLECT communications system. The prize was a walk-on part on Buffy. Jessica Johnson of Maryland won a three-day trip for two to participate in the episode "The Prom", which aired later in the third season.
Promo continuity
The commercial would take place shortly after "Amends", since snow just started falling in Sunnydale at the end of the episode. It is clearly not part of the Buffyverse canon since both the narrator and Buffy actively break the fourth wall.
