Amends/the First

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO IS LIVING UNDER A ROCK AND HAS NOT SEEN SEASON 7 OF BUFFY OR SEASON 4 OF ANGEL***



Ok so I was watching Amends last night because I am going through the entire series again and not just the ones I like the best. Usually I don't watch this one because Buffy's crappy short bangs are just way too distracting. But anywhoo, so towards the end, when Buffy is fighting the first and it says she can't defeat it blah blah and then it turns into this monster thingie before disappearing. Has anyone else ever noticed (or am I just deficient for never noticing the connection) that this is the SAME monster that Jasmine-controlled-Cordelia conjures up in Season 4 of Angel (in Orpheus) when Willow is fighting to release Angel's soul from the jar. Anyone else ever notice this before? I'm loving the continuity right there.

Well, and it all kinda makes sense. I mean, Skip was teling AI how everything that happened was part of a plan etc.
Maybe I'm just stupid, but doesn't that finally give us something more about Jasmine? If she had some connection to The First, wouldn't that make her completely evil and would herefore solve the whole 'idealistic world, not fully bad' issue?
 
You mean the "huge floaty head" thing from Orpheus, right? Gotta screen shot?

I have heard the Jasmine/First alliance theory before. In Amends The First says something to Angel like "When we brought you back". Cordelia's eyes go white like Woods did when he was possessed by the First. There's other stuff, but its not coming to mind.
 
Hmmm, they do look different. I could have sworn they were the same. But then again I haven't seen that ep of Angel in awhile....

I know I have seen that floaty head somewhere else too though.
 
When I first saw Orpheus I thought that too but the heads are totally different

The floaty head representation of The First has been seen twice-once in Amends and once again in I think Bring On The Night when Willow is trying a locator spell.
 
Didn't it turn up in Conversations With Dead People just as Cassie left? I think it was much clearer there if someone wants to dig out a screenshot. It was also much closer in time (and cgi technology!) to Orpheus.
 
I checked 'Bring on the Night', and The First looks prety much like in Amends there, only better visible (couldn't find a good screenshot though), and nothing like in Orpheus.

So I just took a hunt around to see if there was a thread about this episode because it is the only Buffy or Angel ep that I can remember which deals with Christmas at all. (could be wrong there but the only one that comes to mind.

Just found this site yesterday and it rocks. I'm hooked. Thank god.

Back to the point. Amends is one of my favorite episodes for some many reasons. Buffy and Angel really get emotional and the actors really show that they can handle DEPTH. Also the tie in to the 7th season. (I like the idea that the first was just testing them at this point and planned to come back stronger in the future(

So, the main point of looking up this ep was just to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and New Years or whatever celebration / sacrifice you celebrate at this time of year.

I think that the writers didn't intend for them to have a connection, but I can definitly see how they could have worked together or against each other.

And why not make the big floathy head look like the First? It's evil itself, it's bound to be scary and that was the purpose.

They look nothing alike....
 
I totally never made that connection before (as I usually tend to mentally block out the horrible special effects on both shows)...even though I don't think the resemblance is 100% it's an interesting thing to think about.

I never noticed that either - good catch. I did, however, notice Buffy's bangs...and yeah, what was SMG thinking? Or was she even thinking at all?!
 
I just noticed something today while rewatching Amends.

So, The First appears to be corporeal in Amends. As Jenny, it touches Angel quite a few times. Yet, in S7, it is not corporeal, right? I know it says something about "being made flesh" and I don't recall it being able to touch or hurt anything.

So, anyone else noticed this? My question is: how come The First is corporeal in Amends and can't become flesh later in S7? It needs Caleb and the Bringers to do it's dirty work...
 
^ Weird, 'cause I noticed that today too. The touching here and there, okay, I can buy that...because maybe it just APPEARS to be touching him, etc...but I'm pretty sure the First runs her fingers through Angel's hair, and you can see the hair moving.

Honestly, it must be a mistake. They didn't think the First would play a huge role later on, they thought it was just a one-episode Bad, so they were lazy about it.

I think there were three times in Buffy that the First did the floating-head demon thing. Previous posters have said "Amends" and the ep in season 7 when Willow tried to do the locater spell. I think there was one other time when Caleb was getting a "recharge" from the First and we saw the floating head thingy. However, I don't remember if it was the same figure we saw in the other Buffy eps or Angel.
 
is Angel going to cry the entire season, that's basically what he did this ENTIRE episode.

glad that Willow and Oz got back together and Buffy/Joyce reached out to Faith.

He kinda had a reason too though. I think I'd cry if someone was constantly reminding me of all the pain I caused by a massive killing/torturing spree?! 😛 Especially if I already felt REALLY bad about it! 😀
