I was wondering if anyone here was a fan of "American Gothic". It was a one-season wonder back in the mid-90's on CBS. It was created by Shaun Cassidy, who also created Heath Ledger's FOX series "Roar" and ABC's "Invasion".

For those of you who haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Think Twin Peaks meets The Twilight Zone meets Carnivale. The writing and acting is really great. The special effects and stuff are pretty dated, even for a show that was made in 1995, and it can be campy at times (usually in a good way).

You can visit the Amazon page here. If it sounds good I'd recommend a blind buy, it's worth it. If you're not sure, Netflix it. Although remember if you do watch the show on DVD the episodes are out of order and will make no sense if you don't look up the correct order of the episodes and watch them that way.

I'm currently watching the show through again (I think it's the third or fourth time now) and I'm still thoroughly enjoying it.
 
Yeah, I was a big fan at the time. Loved the show. I was so happy when it finally came out on DVD and I snatched it up. Oh man.. it wasnt nearly as good as I remembered it. LOL But it was a great show. Was it mid-90? I thought it was earlier than that.

I loved that friggin' show. Damned network messed it around on purpose. Would've been a real classic if it had been allowed to continue.
 
I agree. I think the ratings were even pretty good despite CBS screwing up the order around. Les Moonves thought it was too dark though and wanted to focus on less violent programming like "Touched By an Angel". He even referred to AG as "Touched By the Devil" and did not want to renew it no matter what.

And now look...every show they have has lots of violence.
 
I'd take the violence of Sheriff Buck any day...oh well.

Do you guys remember the episode where Lucas handcuffs the criminals to their car and gives them a saw so they can cut through their wrist if they'd like, then puts the dynamite in the gas tank? Epic.
 
This was a great show. Gary Cole was fantastic as Sheriff Buck. Genuinely creepy. He was so charismatic, kind and funny on the surface, but pure evil underneath. And the lengths he went to, to get his hands on Caleb were truly scary.
And young Lucas Black, was a brilliant actor. Refreshing to see a "kid" actor that could give a convincing performance.
I haven't seen the show in a long time. I might get the DVD. I hope it's aged well.
 
Classic stuff...we really loved this show at Pointy Towers. Gary Cole was tremendous as Buck, even to the point in a couple of eps where you felt some sympathy for him. A real shame it got canned. As I recall it got treated a lot better by Channel 4 in the UK than on its US showing...we got the eps in the right order for a start.
