American Horror Story Season 5

Oh don't get wrong, it could be done well. Just based on past viewing, I honestly don't think Murphy is good enough to balance/mix those two themes well. He has a habit of going too far in one direction and forgetting the whole point of what he started.
But hey, I'm all for him surprising me. Hell, I'm begging for him to surprise me at his point.

And that's kinda what happened with Nip/Tuck.. that really was the only show of his that I've watched, and again, it got to a point where I just could not bother with it.

And his new American Crime Story? Please. The first season is about the OJ Simpson murders. Who cares? Good cast though.

Yeah there's definitely a pattern in his shows.

Well it seems they've succeeded in exciting the Gaga fan base anyway. Usually when a new season title is announced, it inspires a ton of pretty impressive fan art; posters, fan made teasers etc.
Search American Horror Story Hotel/Season 5 and you mostly just get a bunch of Lady Gaga fan creations and photos that have nothing to do with a hotel whatsoever.

If you had to replace Jessica Lange with another actor, who would you pick? I saw someone on FB suggest Angelica Huston, which I think would be pretty cool.

An alleged leak about the premise of the season. It could be completely fake, I became far more skeptical as soon as I read the "at least three seasons" bit (getting a bit ahead of themselves there perhaps?). But it's a few ideas as to what they could do with it either way.

Also there''s been a lot of discussion around the internet about The Hotel Cecil in LA. Many seem to think that season 5's hotel will be based on it, though I don't think it's been confirmed by anyone official.

Damn. I never thought of that. That's a good idea. But they spent alot of money to rebrand and repair their reputation.

I must admit, I looked into it and the history of the hotel did intrigue me. If it was based on that, I'd be very interested.
But as you say, I did wonder how likely that was since the hotel is still in business.

They could do something loosely based off of it. With a wink and nod to knowing what it really was about. It has a rich and full history, I could see theoretically it lasting three seasons. You start off in the Black Dahlia in the 40's.. move onto Richard Ramirez and then the latest fiasco.

Some new info from Murphy. Apparently there will be no musical numbers in Hotel and it'll be bloodier/grizzlier than previous seasons.

Good news! I'm hoping that this is the season that will go back to the roots and actually starts being good again. I loved Murder House and Asylum, but couldn't finish Coven nor Freak Show (and not for the lack of trying). I will give this the benefit of the doubt, and hope for the best.

Yeah from the sounds of things, it does sound like he's actually going to try and make this one more of a consistent and genuine horror and I like the sound of it being based on real LA hotels. Must admit it's sounding quite a bit more promising.

That's where I'm at too. I finished Coven, but the last few episodes were a mess, so you didn't miss anything good IMO. Haven't finished Freak Show and at this point I may just end up not doing at all (but then I guess that's a good thing about the show... it's not as if I won't understand season 5 because of it). It'd be great if he could get the show back on track. I want to have faith in you Murphy, I really do.

The ending of Freak Show was worse than Coven, so I wouldn't bother.
I have faith in Murphy's Law. Not so much in any other Murphy. Anything that can go wrong with a series will go wrong.

I really enjoyed Freak Show, though it may be that the clown fracking terrified due to my innate fear of IT

I just hope they have a plan going into season 5... Murder House and Asylum, and even to an extent, Coven, all had kind of a beginning, middle, and end. Freak Show was a mess. It was all over the place and we had random actors entering and leaving just because they could. The best part of Coven IMHO was Stevie Nicks... I thought the whole cast was great but there wasn't enough story... it felt more like a teen drama than an American horror story.

This is another show on my long to see list! I liked Glee for one season and then it just got a bit too silly. But I do hear good things about this.

Ryan Murphy seems to be really good at the first few seasons (Glee, Niptuck, AHS), and then things go to shit.
I just hope they have a plan going into season 5
Amen to that. Murphy has actually admitted not knowing where the story was going mid season at one point (can't remember which season he was talking about). Some writers are great at thinking on their feet, but Murphy isn't one of them; when he makes stuff up as he goes along, it's really obvious. He needs a well thought out story plan or else this could easily be another shambles.

I'm probably going to finish Glee, but it's completely out of a "well, I got this far" frame of mind. It definitely peeked right off the bat.

Exactly! Fingers crossed he has a plan for this one!

Yeah I get that its a bit like me with the original Melrose Place or the US Office🙂

If anyone is interested...
AHS: Hotel and Scream Queens panel.

More Scream Queens really. I think there's just been a bigger AHS panel at Comic Con, so hopefully track a recording of that down soon.
