Okay, so... I was watching Graham Norton the other day and he gave me an idea for a thread. American's and British have different words for everything ... but guess who cares (me, obviously) ... if you know any slang Amercian or British words for stuff then type it down cause I wanna know. Anyway, it will be funny trying to bridge the gap between American-English and English-English) If there are any really anoying phrases that you wanna put out there then do that to.


Sound: this means you wouldn't grass on someone and your a great person to get on with.

I need some dollar = I need some money( i know its American but most plp say it over here)

thats pure taking the piss = thats *really* taking the piss
Sound = he/she is really easy to get on with
Safe = ur cool or realy nice

that reminds me of an episode where glory says 'this is the 21st century speak american' that annoyed me a fair bit.

On Big breakfast a boy band from america said they like denises fanny, of course in england a fanny isnt her ass its the other one.

Also pants in england %75 of the time is underwear, can also use it in a phrase such as this thread is 'pants' to mean not very good.

They might not say if from where u live..wheree im from Huddersfield quite alot of teenagers say it

And of course to throw more confusion in the mix you have Scottish and Welsh phrases, and they can be very confusing at times.

For example we (Scots) tend to use the phrase 'How no?" For 'Why Not?" Just one of many.
 
I remember going to a sight ages ago that taught people how to speak Northern Irish which I thought was hilarious, we have some sayings that apparently noone uses except us which i don't believe

dear - means expensive as in 'that's too dear'
Weaker and Beezer used to be used a lot too.

I think for a lot of the UK many people add the word love or duck to the end of every sentence
 
I'd have thought it was geordie...my geordie flatmate came out with oy sounding stuff quite a bit..maybe that was just me ignoring him a lot though...
 
I use dander and dear alot. One of my fave sayings its 'Oi ya cheeky wee bugger' Bugger is a word which is used a lot lighter over here. When I was little I was called buggerlugs by my mother, which makes no sense at all as lugs is ears. Its sort of an affectionate term. Now one which i use for Wesley here 😀
