One of our favorite shows when I was a kid was "Amos & Andy," a show from the 50's that was taken off the air because it was believed at that time that it portrayed African Americans in a bad light. I never understood that logic, to me and a whole lot of others, it was just a good comedy. Below is a web site (perfectly legal, with commercials) that has an episode with commentary that I would really like someone who has never seen the show to watch it and give me your opinion. Do you find it offensive?

The program lasts for about 45 minutes, just so you're warned in advance.
 
I think I remember studying this in my graphic novel class. Was there a comic version of the show? Or was the show originally based on a comic? I'll be back later to check it out.

It was a radio show first, but there might have been a comic book at some time.
I remember the remake some years ago with (I think) Sam Jackson and Nic Cage called Amos and Andrew; that was bad for a whole different reason.

That wasn't actually a re-make, that was just a case of using a title for its comedic effect. The original was nothing like that movie.

And THAT would explain WHY I thought it was a bad remake... d'oh!
 
Sorry not a fan of this show, truly a low point in the history of AA in entertainment.

The video is no longer available...where else might I be able to view an example of the program?

This thread sprang to my mind today as I was reading an article on Ebonics, which mentioned the show.
 
It had its good and bad cause it was both a breakthru in tv for AA..and a bad representation of AA..but the times were different..i dont agree with it being cancelled but i wasnt the show you wanted as your breakthru if u could change it..but you cant so you have to take it for what it is
