i want the perspective of someone from the UK. granted, i'll take anyone elses comments as well 🙂...

who do you like better? Amy Winehouse or Lily Allen

Lily Allen is a stuck up pretentious wannabe chav.
She whines on about living the hard life when infact her 'daddy' is a pretty successful business man and actor(see his splendid take on The Sheriff of Nottingham in the Beebs Recent 'Robin Hood').
Keith Allen is brilliant.
I really have no time for Lily Allen but 'Smile' is catchy.

Amy Winehouse on the other hand is an absurd drunk who doesn't give a crap and is VERY honest about who she is and where she has come from...for that reason alone, I love this woman.
Rehab is one of my favourite songs and i'm actually attracted to her.

Thats my opinion, why?

Okay, thought this thread was related to one of my favourite topics of discussion, that being Amy Lee. One sure way of getting me to check out a thread is relate it in some way to her. 😉

Okay, as for the actual ladies the thread is about, I'll be honest and say I'm not really a fan of either. As BotD says, Lill Allen is a little too chav-culture for me to entertain (only one step up above The Streets, which isn't a good thing) and I just don't really get Amy Winehouse's music enough to really have an opinion. She doesn't suck but I'd never choose to spend money on her cd.

Now, Amy Lee, however... GODDESS! 😀

I thought it was about Amy Lee too, lol. I love Amy Lee, for the record.

Um, I like Amy Winehouse okay...she's so odd-looking, though.

I was half watching an interview with her and it seems she got a lot of bullying when she was young because of her dad being famous. I know it sounds a little "Oh spoiled princess is upset becasue her tiara hasn't got enough crowns" but I'd imagine it is still hard to cope with.

Anyway. I think Amy Winehouse has a fantastic voice and good music but I dunno, I just prefer listening to Lily Allen's music. Its more catchy and fun. Personalities wise I don't really know much about either of them.

I find it really, really strange that people complain about Lily Allen trying to hard to create a certain image... and then compare her to Amy Winehouse. Seriously? I like Winehouse, but she is in no way Amy From The Block, however she chooses to market herself.

That said, I hate this thing of mentioning somebody's financial background like it automatically renders them incapable of charisma or talent or heart. Josh Homme and Win Butler both come from comfortable backgrounds, but I don't think either of them are doing their thing just because they got bored of making moneycastles at home in their Scrooge McDuck money room, nor do I think those self-same moneycastles are entirely to thank for the success of Queens of the Stone Age or Arcade Fire.

Allen gets a lot of hassle for her image, but she's never made any bones about who she is or what she comes from. She's not a chav, and I really hate using that word. Maybe her fans are. But she's not, really. The fact that Keith Allen has lots of useful industry connections probably helped her get her music out, back in the beginning, but it doesn't explain her enduring popularity. People like her and they like her music, so she must be doing something right.

I prefer Allen, just because I think she's a genuinely unusual figure who likes to do unusual things, and I reckon that of the two, she's willing to take a few more risks. I prefer her mate Kate Nash more though. Foundations is a great damn song.
