Just after the "˜little' battle against the first had happened.
As they got back on the pretty yellow school bus.
AN ABOMINABLE TALE
"Buffy, I've just had a message from Miss Harkness, a sixteen
year old potential has gone missing. She had gone with her
watcher to Kingdom, near Yellowstone Park about three
weeks ago. They were meant to be coming here. You haven't
heard anything from them have you?" asked Willow.
"From near Yellowstone you say, nothing from that area. And
if all goes well tomorrow, I'll get a few people to go and have
a look. What were their names?" asked Buffy.
"They said their names were Janice and Gary Bradshaw her
watcher. His daughter is married to a vet, they have a
veterinary surgery in Kingdom," Willow looked to Buffy, asking
about her distant stare, "What is it?"
"I was just thinking, I really don't know much about that area,
I'm gonna need some info, before we left this morning, did you
put your affairs in order?"
"No, I didn't, I expected to win but I didn't expect Sunnydale
to fall into a big hole."
"Excuse me," said Kennedy, "I put Willow's affairs in order."
"Willow! stop grinning like that! Look, you've got Kennedy at
it now! I don't know, I long for the days that they used to
hold hands under the table," said Buffy.
"Just as well we didn't notice," said Dawn rolling her eyes.
"Just a thought Will, did you have one of those satellite
connections for the internet, "˜cos it would be handy right
now," said Buffy.
"What are you girls planning?" asked Giles
"Will said about a potential that's gone missing, and her
watcher. I was about to ask about some money to hire a car."
"That is okay, I'll take care of that. Actually I was thinking
along those lines myself, a friend of mine in Bath, her parents
have a small castle on the Mull of Kintire, when you've got
yourselves sorted you could go there. It used to be a hotel,
so you'd have a fair choice of rooms," said Giles.
Arranging to meet up at the Scottish castle Buffy, Willow,
Dawn, Kennedy and Faith went to Kingdom. Faith said she
would have a sleep in the quietest place, the boot. She was
unimpressed to find out their car was a station wagon.
They found the watchers kids place fairly easily although it
was empty. Faith had gone to see if the back door was open.
She came back telling them they'd have to break in as the
animals in the cages didn't have any food or water.
Willow used their computer to get on to the internet, hoping
she could find where they were from the e-mail listings. The
others had busied themselves looking after the animals.
Dawn called out that she had found the drinks fridge, and that
there was a can of Tab each. While they sat in the waiting
room Buffy asked Willow if she had found anything useful.
"Maybe, she had been in touch with a Sandy, whose husband
worked in a joinery in town. They were going to go to the
next town to meet someone called Young Benjamin in Arnold's
Diner, it mentions a video he wanted to show them. That's all
though," said Willow.
"What does it say about this town?" asked Buffy.
"Not much, only it is nestled in the leafy lanes on the slopes
of a mountain about fifteen miles west of Yellowstone Park."
"What is the name of that town we are going to Willow?"
asked Dawn. "Borzoiville."
Driving to Borzoiville they were surprised to join the line of
cars at a road block that was controlled by some of the
national guard. Puzzled, they looked at each other. Dawn and
Faith went to see what the problem was.
At the barrier they noticed a man in a white coat, waving him
over they asked what was happening.
"Wild animals on the loose. Is there a specific reason why you
are here?" he asked.
"My sister was asked to try and find the vet from the town of
Kingdom, she was meant to meet a Sandy and talk with a
young Benjamin at Arnolds Diner. The vet from Kingdom, it is
her father we are trying to find," said Dawn.
"There's something about your sister here, you might be able
to help us, I'll get clearance for you."
As Faith and Dawn were going back to the car. "I don't think
you should repeat about him thinking I was your sister," said
Faith, "Unless you find Buffy is in a very good mood."
As promised he waved them through the road block, he got
into the car with them. They introduced themselves to him.
"My name is Steven Edwards, I'm the head laboratory
technician for the Findings group in Cannock, that's about
fifty miles south of here. We'll go to Arnolds Diner first."
Walking into the Diner, the television was on but there was no
signal. It only had white noise. They each wandered about the
empty place.
"Hey guys, it isn't white noise on the TV, it's the end of a
video," called Dawn.
After re-winding the video Dawn pressed the play button.
They all sat, quietly watching the tape, ten minutes went
past and all that happened was an old man was bent over,
looking into the river. Getting bored of watching him look at
the river Faith was about to stand up when the man plucked
a Salmon from the waters.
"Oh wow! now that is clever," stated Willow, "Not many
people have done that, well not many would make a tape of
them doing it."
"Isn't that known as tickling the fish?" asked Dawn.
They watched as he threw it onto the bank.
"He's going to do it again!" Willow exclaimed.
"Just a minute? He threw that fish on the other bank, why
throw the fish away from the camera.....
Oh my god!" exclaimed Buffy.
Two big brown bears went towards the fish, beginning to pull
it apart. They suddenly turned, their roars made everyone in
the room sit up. Benjamin waded towards the camera.
"Noisy mothers aren't they," commented Steven.
"The reason for watching this tape, what is it?" asked Willow.
"What do you mean?" asked Kennedy.
"Rewind it, to just before the fish was thrown on the bank."
Dawn did as Willow requested.
"What are we looking for?" asked Dawn.
"Look into the trees," said Willow, "When the fish is thrown
onto the bank, I'm sure I saw something move."
They intently watched as the fish was thrown.
"Yes, there, I saw something," said Buffy.
"It's just another bear," stated Steven.
"I'm not so sure," said Kennedy, "Can you go back and freeze
frame it, then go forward a frame at a time?"
Watching closely, Dawn suggested it was as Steven said.
"No," said Kennedy, "Look at the eyes, they are wrong. They
are to close together for a bear and, well the bear would
have to be standing up. Can you turn the brightness up?"
Increasing the brightness bit by bit until the animal could be
seen. Then they stopped talking. They just watched as the
animal moved closer to the tree-line.
Stunned, they looked to each other.
"That is a bigfoot," said Buffy.
"Guys, er guys, there is more of them here, look, behind it,
there's two more of them," said Dawn.
"Why they are there?" asked Willow.
"They must have been hungry, for those bears," said Buffy.
"Or maybe it was the fish," added Kennedy.
"Not necessarily, think about it, what brought them down from
the mountain?" asked Willow.
"Oh crap," said Steven.
"Yes, the man in the river," stated Faith.
"No, that is not what I meant, behind the camera, that road
leads to here!" stated Steven.
"Can you rewind it, to just before the camera was moved?"
asked Willow.
"Why? what is it? what have you seen this time?" asked Buffy.
Willow looked at the fuzzy tv screen.
"I'm not completely sure, but that fleeting glance, I saw, I
think, that didn't look like any Bigfoot I've seen before."
Dawn slowly rewound the tape, getting close she moved the
footage forward frame by frame.
One of the Bigfoot moved into the light.
"I not positive but those three, they are different," said Willow,
"It might be an idea to check the history of the area,
considering what we have out there."
"Why?" asked Steven.
Willow reached to the counter, she grabbed her bag, opening
it she pulled out the lap-top.
"Here it is, the name of this town, Borzoiville. Hmm, I wonder
if there is more to this than meets the eye. Borzoi! I suppose
it isn't a word that is used very often these days. It describes
a large hound with a narrow head and a silky coat," said Willow.
"You've lost me," said Dawn.
"The name of the town being of a large dog, something that
walks on two feet? Well to me that would spell werewolf.
But not them."
"You are right, it isn't."
Looking to see where the voice came from and whose it was
they were confronted by three big, very large, hairy animals.
"You are the ones we have just seen on the tape? Right?"
asked Willow.
"That is right."
"So who? What? Who are you?" asked Dawn.
"We don't have names, no need for them. We are as you
people know us as, a Bigfoot, a Sasquatch and my friend here
lives higher in the mountains, you know him as a Yeti."
"Why are you here?" asked Buffy.
The "˜Bigfoot' looked at Buffy.
"We were asked to be here, to protect Janice for you, the
others are your second front."
âhe others? like you? There are more like you? How many are
there? Just a minute, you said about my second front, where
you listening when I told Angel to be the second front?"
"We were told to watch over Janice. This time we were a
second front, the last time was back in seventeen twenty
three in Sharpsville. About the second front, there are several
thousand of us."
A young girl walked into the Diner, she went to each of the
abominable men, verbally thanking each of them, walking
towards Buffy she knelt to her.
"I am Janice, my watcher will be here soon."
