The thing is that the shootings that happen in the USA over and over are not perpetrated by criminals - it seems that they are always perpetrated by disturbed "shy boys" or "quite men" who have never committed any crime in their entire lives.

This people have access to (lots of) guns in their houses (bought by their parents, in case of boys), or they go to a supermarket and are able to buy as many guns as they want - and as their sick mental process develop, they cannot prevent themselves taking these guns and... use them. And it's not the same thing with knives...

A couple of comments in this thread have given me an idea - a "What movies have been filmed in your area?" thread. I walk the dog past one such place every Monday and Friday.

They were used for everything from peeling potatoes to skinning grizzly bears, and there are very avid collectors, myself included, who look forward to the Atlanta Blade Show the first weekend in June every year.

What affects steel quality? Higher/lower carbon content? How do I go from trying to be funny to actually becoming interested in the quality of steel.

Did you know that guns, knives and Land Rovers are pretty much the same in one particular aspect?
They don't complain if you touch another of their kind.
They don't complain if you caress another of their kind
They don't complain if you spend the night with others of their kind
But husbands and wives, and their like they do complain.


There is one thing that wasn't compared in the survey, understanding each other.
A few years ago, cough, and a lot more I went with a friend from Rutherglen to see his grandparents, en route to a Celtic v Rangers football match. I can honestly say I didn't understand a word for thirty minutes.
 
I like the idea that pubs are community living rooms, the pub I work in is kinda like that, people bring their dogs and sit and chat for a while. (It's also the village shop too)

When I see that on TV/DVD, I find myself wanting to be there... and if it is at a small pub on the Yorkshire Dales - one the most beautiful places in the world - the better...
 
It's been a very long time since I was in England, 45 years, in fact, but the thing that stands out in my memory, aside from them for some reason driving on the wrong side of the road, was that beer and soft drinks were served at room temperature, and, even if you ordered a Coke with ice, you got one little cube floating in the class just for the amount of time that it took for the warm Coke to melt it.

Calling french fries "chips," and potato chips "crisps," even calling soccer "football," I could adjust to, but warm drinks, not so much.
