I was cleaning my room, and came upon an old Teen magazine frim 2000 with Sarah Michelle Gellar on the cover. When I read the article, I couldn't believe what I saw.

So with David Bereanaz's Angel out of the picture, who's next? (Let's just say we wouldn't mind a bit if Buffy hooks up with Nicholas Brendan's Xander!) "Joss [Whedon, the sieres creator] doesn't like to tell us--with good reason" says Sarah, who admits she'd be the first to spill. Okay, Sarah won't dish love details, but she did reveal her fantasy guy: Spike! "When I mentioned the possibility of Spike and Buffy," says Sarah, "Joss was like, 'No more vampires!'" Maybe she's right. After all, dating vamps can be kinda draining!

I wonder what made Joss change his mind?

He saw James shirtless and was like "Yeah!"

But no thats weird, Sarah was for it Joss was against it, then at the end of it Sarah was against it Joss was for it. Maybe its after the "non-vampire" love (ie Riley) turned out so :blah3: he decided yeah, lets give her a vampire.

He probably thought more about the idea and it turned out that it would be a good move for both series. Angel would get really jealous and vice versa. And it would show that Buffy can't have a love life without danger. She craves it. Especially after dying and coming back.

When I saw James at my first con back in the day he was asked what he'd like to see done with Spike and he replied that he and Buffy should have a thing, and this was way before Angel left, or just as he left one of the two.

It's wierd though. Joss seems to plan so far ahead (He knew he was going to add Dawn as early as season 3), but something like Buffy and Spike just happened. Maybe Sarah's idea stuck with him, and he decided Spike having a crush on Buffy would explain why he helped the Scoobies, then things kinda snowballed until we ended up with "Smashed".

Hmm...I find that article kinda surprising...I would have never thought she would have had that idea in the first place...because at the end...she was more against it...and Joss more for it....but thanks for posting that eset! Quite interesting!

eset: Which Teen mag was it exactly? What month or volume or whatever? I feel the need to find it in back issues just for that article. I may frame it and hang it on my wall! lol! SPUFFY!

He just wanted to piss off the Bangels...and occult Spike's homosexuality,a lot of girls watched the show because of him,if they would have known Spike was in love with Angel they probably would have stopped watching the show...silly girls.

LOL okay...funny thing I started watching Buffy at "Smashed " not cause it of it supposed hotness... I mean I just thought that Buffy had issues being with two Vampires intrigued me as I say now "Issues much?"... anyway, I would have to say I am more Spuffy (being more of a Sprusilla) than Bangel (being more a Darla/Angel or Cangel)... but if Spike were gay... though it may *not* have bothered me I do doubt I would have watched the show in the first place.

It was the January 2000 issue, with SMG on the front (not really looking like herself, though) and "girls rule!" in big pink letters across the bottom. The Buffy thing was on page 59.
