An Underrated Season?

I like season 4 more than season 3. S3 is my least favorite. But I've seen many people that like it. It's just I'm not a big fan of flashback of Angel's life. So Holtz storyline kinda bored me. But I love those good episodes, like, Billy, Lullaby, Waiting In The Wings, Tomorrow, etc. And I like Groo, Frunn and baby Connor. And I LOVE Darla storyline. 🙂

So, no, I don't think it's underrated.

I am rewatching it right now since I am sick with the Swine here. I have made it as far as Carpe Noctum (excellent episode). I have to say that maybe I did underrate it a bit. It had been awhile since I'd seen it so S3 for me always was just two things 'Connor showed up boo!' and 'Wesley gets his throat cut boo!' so I was not a huge fan of it. Now that I am re-watching it, my opinion changed somewhat and I am liking it more and more.

Also this is the first season where the ratings for Angel beat out the ratings for Buffy so... overall I imagine it wasn't underrated by the general populace.

I think it's one of the best seasons of Angel.Because I really admired David and Alexis' acting abilities. The whole Holtz story was magnificent and the way it was executed...so many plot twists!
No black and white is what i really love in Angel. Darla gives us a very touching ending of her character, and i like baby Connor!!!

i just noticed that season 3 wasnt a lot of people's favorite. I am re-watching it and I like it a lot more. Really love Darla/baby connor storyline.

I think it's overrated actually. Most people I know say it's their favourite season, and I know it was liked by the critics too. It's my least favourite season, but then I wasn't a massive fan of Cangel.

Season 3, joint with season 5, is my favourite season of Angel. A lot of people I know really dislike it, and I don't understand why. It's a pretty darn awesome season.

I was actually shocked to see so many people hating AS3... I watched it for the first time last year and I remember it to be the moment I started really loving this show. Fred, for one thing, quite obvioustly. Plus the storyline was really great ! I remember not being able to wait for the next episode and watching them all at once for quite good a segment of this season... And I'm no Cangel shipper but they had a couple of really cute scenes. It was all really greatly written and acted, I really don't know why people dislike it that way... Maybe when I'll see it again, the flaws will become more visible but for now I have a really great feeling about this season... Especially a very 'first season' first season and a second season I kind of hated (except for the Pylea episodes which totally made the season to me).

I'm not sure if it's underrated by the majority, but for me it's where AtS started to be really fun. I liked season one and two, but not as much as BtVS.

The first episode was decent, but then the episodes 2 and 3, I loved them! 'That Old Gang of Mine' was when I started liking Gunn as a character.

Then you got the Darla storyline that culminate with Angel newfound hapiness with his son(some of these scenes were hilarious, like when he switch to vampire face and Connor stop crying). Was great to see Angel in a good mood for once, and also you can't forget Lorne arrival to the Hotel and him joining the group for good!

You got a few comedic episodes like Waiting in the Wings and Couplet(Angel next to Groo, trying to look taller hahahaha). And then BAM, the story starts to get deeper and darker with 'The Father will kill the Son'. I really loved these episodes before and after Wesley betrayal.

One of the most surprising scene for me then was Connor coming out of that portal thingy! Follow that with that slow motion fighting scene, awesome. The next two episodes about Connor were a bit slow and boring in some parts but then the last episode was great.

Overall, I got glued to my tv screen from that season up to the end of the series.

S3 is pretty great, i got the impression that alot of people liked it with wesley turning all bad boy ish. I mean angel and darla have a kid thats like some totally next level shit. Also, I personally enjoy any flashbacks that happen in the whedonverse, incite into the not so laid out past is a great treat.

I really don´t like Cangel but the season is great, I love Angel flashbacks and the Darla episodes are the best. The Wesley arc is good, the Fred one also. Actually, I think only Cangel spoils the fun.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Cangel, or of Cordelia's character in general for the latter part of the season. Didn't care for her transformation into a half-demon with random deus ex machina powers and none of her old wit.

Plenty of other good things about the season, though. Holtz, Darla, and especially Wesley. I thought Wes's arc was excellently written, and Alexis Denisof was brilliant. Wesley was always the one willing to make the hard choices, and his decision to take Connor really did seem like the best option to him at the time, but at the same time I couldn't fault Angel for his furious reaction to it either.

Still a step down from season two in my opinion, but great nonetheless.

Ya know what always ticked me off, I personally do agree that Angel should have been that mad. On the other hand, Cordelia not once going to Wesley to talk to him about it? How terrible of her. She knew Wesley just as long as Angel and to not even like... call him? Absolutely despicable. Couldn't believe it. They do the Cordelia character such a disservice in the last half of S3 and S4.

This is actually my favorite Angel season. I don't ship Cangel, but the episodes were great! We've got Conner before he got obnoxious, Wesley undergoing his "change," Linsey's amazing departure in "Dead End" (at least, I think that was season 3) and of course, the best, "Billy," my favorite Angel ep!

Oh yeah, Cordelia's casual abandonment of Wes was terrible, but sadly not surprising by this point - she even said herself that Angel's feelings were the only ones she cared about. *sigh*
