Analogy and Metaphor (Smile Time and others
In the past,) The show Angel has always been filled with "Analogy" and "metaphor", but in the episode Smile Time" they seem to play homage to that fact, when the dog muppet wanting to do a song about the
difference between" metaphor and analogy."
Analogy - Similarity in some respects between things that are otherwise dissimilar.
Metaphor -One thing conceived as representing another; a symbol.
There is a Analogy between Gunn and Framklin. both of them started with nothing. A year ago Framklin, like Gunn, was losing his opportunity to keep doing what gave his life meaning. So he made a deal with demons to be able to keep bringing quality edu-tainment to children, and finds himself their puppet. Gunn found himself losing his abilities and therefore his own opportunity to continue doing that which gave his life meaning. So he too makes a deal with the devil, :: red dev and now he will be the legal puppet of the doctor. More than anyone, Gunn has been the one who has insisted that "we're doing so much good here". Framklin, even through his wish for death, insists that he "brings joy to the lives of children".
Angel reminds me of Buffy in "as you were", when he told Nina that his nose comes off. (like when Buffy told Riley that her hat had a cow on it)
I think it was a "analogy" between the embarrassment Buffy felt when Riley show up at her work, unannounced, and the embarrassment that Angel felt, when Nina surprise him in his office. both of them was embarrass, and at a loss of what to say.
I think it was either Spike, or Lindsey who called Angel a puppet. Angel turning into a puppet, is a "metaphor", [/i]for him working at W&H. The fang gang are not the ones running the company. it's hit home by the fact that the senior partners, only made Gunn's knowledge of law temporarily.
