Anastacia Has Breast Cancer

Pop singer Anastacia revealed Tuesday that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The cancer was discovered last week during a routine checkup, the 29-year-old said in a statement.

"My doctor was insistent that I have a mammogram even though it was not required. He saved my life!" she said.


"I appreciate all who are concerned, but please don't worry. Either way, I have no intention of letting this news get me down. I'm a fighter by nature and nothing will ever change that."

Representatives declined to discuss other details of the illness or her planned treatment.

Publicist Paul Freundlich said Anastacia is in dance rehearsals in New York and plans to finish filming a video for her latest single, "Love Is a Crime," featured on the soundtrack of the film "Chicago."

In May 2002, she performed on "VH1 Divas Las Vegas," sharing the stage with Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Cher and the Dixie Chicks at the MGM Grand.

The singer, who was born Anastacia Newkirk in Chicago and grew up in New York, got her start as a dancer on "Club MTV." Her albums include "Not That Kind" and "Freak of Nature."

When she was 13, Anastacia was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammation of the digestive track. She has said she would never hide a large scar on her midriff, instead showing it off with formfitting cropped tops.

I don't know much of her music but I know who she is. I sure wished they'd find a way to cure this bloody disease. I've known two women already who died of breast cancer. 🙁 She has my prayers, as she's probably in for a long ride.
 
I don't know her that good, but she scored quite a few hits here, she seems like a very kind person, I'm sorry for her, but I admire her spirit for not giving up!
 
I really like her music, and it is such a shame to hear that she has breast cancer. At least it was diagnosed early though, so thats a good thing. I'm sure everything will be ok in the end, she's obviously a fighter anyway, having to battle Crohn's disease also.🙂🙂
 
I love her music, and agree with esley; she really is a fighter. Plus at her age and with it being discovered early it should be fine, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed
 
*Crosses fingers* I only hope that this will make her music reach out to others even more. She has such a unique voice and a great personality... she'll get through this.
 
This strikes a chord as my best friend's mum has recently discovered that she has breast cancer for the second time and is currently receiving treatment for it. As she was first diagnosed when she was 39 yrs old, my friend has got to start being screened for it when she is 29 yrs old. As a woman I would imagine that the thought of possibly losing a breast is a very frightening thing, although quite often if caught early enough treatment alone is enough.

I'm sure that Anastacia will fight this with the same gutsy attitude that her singing has! At least it has been discovered early, and I would hope that the right treament will send her on a speedy recovery.
 
Aww i love anastacia, she seems to be such a charismatic and down to earth girl despite her celebrity. I hope she recovers fine, thats awful news.
