And The Worst Episode Of Buffy Is Ever...

I can't say that there are any Buffy episodes I dislike watching. Except maybe "Seeing Red," but that's painful for other reasons than bad writing or acting or directing.
 
I liked that episode.. I would say the worst episode of Buffy is Doublemeat Palace.
 
No way that Where the Wild Things are is the worst episode. Every time I hear someone say that, I can't help but think they are just hating on the idea of the episode. (I'll admit I even use to dislike it, but then I realized it wasn't as bad as my mind had made it out to be)

The only interesting part of the article was learning that the writer for this episode also did Beer Bad, and both are moralist episode in a sense. The rest of the article if meh to me, I don't agree with it.
 
Couldn't get through the article but I think the guy takes a similar view to me. I Robot was a dodgy episode, Dawn's introduction is an issue and Season 6 is sub par. I suspect my worst episode will be in Season 6 somewhere but because I haven't seen it in a while and I think a lot of the episodes blend together that Season I can't pick one out.
 
I agree with some of what the article says, S6 is the weakest of the full length seasons. S1 also gets a pass with me because the show was very much finding it's feet and deciding what it wanted to be.
As for 'worst episode ever' I'd look for an episode that has no redeeming features and is mostly unpleasent to watch. 'WTWTA' at least has some decent Spike/Anya characterisation and Giles singing. It's one of the worst of S4 but overall? Not really.

Personally I always struggle to get through 'Wrecked' which I remember has no redeeming features apart from AH's strong performance. (It stands out as very bad even though its sandwiched between two other poor episodes- 'Smashed' and 'Gone'.)

The 'magic as drugs' metaphor is so blatant and stupidly handled it makes the 'Internet is evil' of 'I Robot, You Jane' look masterful and clever by comparison (I think its when Willow enters the 'Magic-warlock- junkie crackhouse' that's the real lowpoint for me),
It also turns the character of Amy from high school girl into a switchy junkie out of nowhere to service the (poor) plotting, also the Spuffy stuff is deeply unpleasent to sit through, its not a very clever or funny episode, the monster is lame as are some of the magic FX.

Even the action scene is poorly handled- Willow using magic to drive a car? It's retarded thinking.
I guess Dawn is sympathetic enough, she really gets messed up this episode.

Plus the conversation at the end of the episode completely fluffs Willow's actual character flaws that have been building throughout the seasons. It's like somebody looked at Willow's illustrated character flaw that had been shown since S3- 'she uses magic as an easy fix for her personal life/emotions' - and completely misunderstood the use of the word 'fix'.
'Hey, in that case we should make her an addict!' 🙄

Yeah, there's no real excuse for 'Wrecked', it stinks.
 
I mean it's certainly not the best episode but I never considered it bad, let alone the worst!

The jokes might've been a little bit flat at times and maybe the timing wasn't right (I suppose it could have been placed earlier in the season so they could've put more tension in the end) but the only thing I really didn't like about the episode was that yet again Buffy has sex and bad things happen...
 
Thought the article was totally rubbish to start with🙄

His argument against Beer Bad (which I like by the way) is rubbish. That episode has nothing to do with stereotyping young people, but is just a methaphor for them being exposed to danger, but is more so about Buffy who doesn't normally drink putting herself in danger, as well as her getting over Parker.

Also like Doublemeat Palace. I liked them linking the demon world to the fast food business, and Buffy in that uniform was cute!

Where the Wild Things Are isn't the best episode, but it is far from the worse. Would say Teacher's Pet off the top of my head, but will need to think again.

I agree with this. It's the worst episode of S4, but I really do love Spike and Anya in it. I just can't stand watching the shots of Buffy and Riley rolling around in the bed having sex. That's just terrible imo. I would say it's in my top 5 worst episodes though, but not #1.

Hmm, maybe if it was after The I in Team, where we also saw Buffy and Riley going at it. It maybe would have made more sense. Especially when Anya says that it's the first time her and Xander haven't had sex. That seems less likely this late in the season. And I agree the season arc should be more in place here.

I still can't stand Inca Mummy Girl. I Robot You Jane is also pretty bad, but Jenny and Giles save it for me. But it's still bad. I actually like Go Fish and Doublemeat Palace. I like Doublemeat Palace cause of the MotW situation. I like seeing Willow be nerdy with her chemistry and Buffy investigating the disappearing workers.

Hmm. I haven't seen this in a while, but I'm going to say you're right. On paper it sounds terrible, but I guess it's just one of those episodes I'm just 'meh' about rather than actually not being able to stand watching it.
 
I guess it all depends on what you like most; decent plot or strong characterisation. Inca Mummy Girl has an awful plot, truly terrible in fact, but all the characterisation is spot on- its even got some good jokes.

'Teacher's Pet' falls into the same catagory imo, plus almost all the S1 episodes have a kitch edge that tends to soften their awfulness, and the writers are still finding their feet.
The later episodes from mid-S2 don't really have that excuse which makes them worse imo, there's no excuses for some of them.
And I have to say after recently watching 'Go Fish' it isn't really as awful as I had remembered, it just kinda falls apart towards the end.

But 'Dead Man's Party', 'Beer Bad', 'Dead Things', and 'As You Were' are all strong contenders- containing lame plots, unpleasent scenes, lame jokes and poor characterisation.

I actually recently discovered that Tracey Forbes only wrote three Buffy episodes- all of them in Season 4- they were 'Beer Bad', 'Something Blue' and 'Where The Wild Things Are', two out of three pretty bad episodes might explain why she didn't write any more scripts after.
 
I'm also going to throw in 'Gingerbread'. To me it's the worst in S3, I'd rather watch 'Dead Man's Party'. It has a good few good moments towards the end with Cordy, Xander and Oz. And Buffy's line ''Did I get it?" But the rest of the episode I can't stand. It's pretty boring and dark and I don't like Joyce in it.

I'm gonna watch 'Gingerbread' next week. I'll have to see if its as bad as I remember. :)
