And we watch this, how?

I think it's a little premature, I mean we usually don't find out the channel it will be on till it starts in the states.

I hope it's SkyOne, I like watching shows on Skyone for some reason!
 
^I hope it's not on Sky One cause I don't have that channel anymore 🙁 (I'm with Virgin Media).
 
Anybody has an idea how long it will take for them to air it in Germany (and if they'll do that at all?)? Or, alternatively, if you'll be able to somehow watch it on the internet legally? I would so love to see the show.
 
Erm depends on what channel. If it goes on sky one, I think sky have a internet TV watching service. I would imagine Germany will get it about same time as England not to sure how TV shows work. They could wait for the U.S and U.K feedback before it hits the rest of Europe.

Haha, you're kidding. You know, here they are airing Angel season5 for the first time right now. So, it originally aired in about 2004, hm, that's 4 years later...I don't think I want to wait that long. Stupid Germany, why can't I live in the States, or at least get their TV? 🙁

4 years blimey thats bad. If worst comes to worst get it on dvd. Pray it comes on sky one and watch it from there on demand service.
 
This is going to be a FOX show, right? They show most of their stuff online. That's how I watched the last half-season of House and quite a bit of S.C.C.
 
Sky one is a more reliable channel, but feel sorry for all those without sky, they have been a little bit B******ish with the whole virgin thing

Yeah but you shouldnt get Virgin if you want to watch sky channels. Sky were stupid for letting virgin viewers watch shy one etc

If a show airing in the US is successful and fits with the viewer-profile of a foreign channel, that channels might try to buy the rights to airing that show in another country from the studio. They usually wait for at least half, but more often a whole season (or even more) to see if a show is successful and is of a consistent quality. Obviously, channels in different countries are not linked. Just because a British channel buys it, doesn't mean a German one also will. It is an extra incentive of course, to know that a show has been successful in more than one country.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the channel who wants to buy it, should have room in their schedule. If in a certain year they have a top line-up, they're less likely to buy new shows, because they have enough to show. In a year with worse ratings, they might pick up a foreign show easier, or even decide to buy another season of an older show, because it has proven more successful than whatever they're airing at the moment. Which is most likely what happened with Angel s5 in Germany.

Any way, it's not exactly like I described it above, but you can imagine the process of channels buying foreign shows like this.
 
It might, just might show on either the FX channel or possibly the Sci-Fi channel, for those of us Virgin Media people without SkyOne.

The reason I say that is because FX is always airing things like Buffy and Angel, and Sci-Fi channel aired both Firefly and Heroes, so there's a slight possibility one of those two. But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
 
I think alot of UK TV channels seem to be grabbing new US shows earlier than they used to. ITV picked up Pushing Daisies, and then you have LivingTV who picked up Moonlight & Reaper, so maybe if & when it comes to the UK it might not be SkyOne who get it. I have Sky so I'm not worried what channel it ends up on, but it will suck big time if VirginMedia folks don't get to see it if it does end up on SkyOne.

Of course, there is always the option that it doesn't get picked up in the UK at all........ scary thought....

I'd say there is a good chance that we in Ireland might get it before the U.K. Pretty much every show from Friends to Lost was and continues to air earlier in Ireland. I'd keep an eye out on TnaG and TV3 and RTE 2.
 
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't end up on Sky, unless of course we Virgin subscribers get it back 🙂. Like edb said, the other channels seem to be picking up on the fact that there is an audience for "cult" shows (Supernatural, Pushing Daisies and Dexter on ITV channels; Reaper on E4; and Sarah Connor and Chuck on Virgin 1 are the ones that spring to mind for me - plus the good old Beeb try their best...Heroes and Doctor Who) but that hasn't stopped Sky outbidding others in the past...Channel 4 had Lost taken off them, Five lost Prison Break to Sky and BBC2 lost 24 to them...and of course Sky tend to get first dibs on Fox shows, as they are both part of Murdoch's empire.

While I welcome our world of multi-channel choice, I can't help but to look back to the good old days of four terrestrial channels with some nostalgia. You knew where you were with your favourite programs then - there may not have been so much choice but you didn't have to spend 15 minutes ploughing through your TV guide to see when they were on 😉

However,networks do have a habit of restricting exactly who can see what online. Just a few cases: If you were from outside the United States and wanted to see CBS' Jericho,for example,you wouldn't have been able to. Canada's Global network,too,restricts online viewing of their shows to residents of Canada.

My advice: Check and see what Fox's policy is in regards to streaming their shows.

It's 100% legal, it has FOX and NBC shows (it's usually updated with new episodes the day after they air), and it's great quality. There are around two or three 30-second commercials during each episode, but you can barely notice them. Hopefully that'll help non-US viewers 😀
