I've been thinking about this for awhile now so how come Andy Hallet (RIP) who was on Angel for about 4 years since the start of season 2 & to the end of season 5 it TOOK UNTIL season 4/5 to finally bill him in the credits but James Marsters gets billed in the opening credits right when the 5th season starts.

I never understood that why wasn't Hallet billed as a cast member after the end of season 2? He was a very popular character too

Well, the James Marsters question is simple...he's James Marsters lol. IIRC, one of the ways the networks told Angel that the show would be more likely to get picked up for a 5th season was to add James, so adding him would mean giving him a significant role and not disappointing fans

I don't know why our friend Lorne took so long to be a main characters. In season 2 they probably didn't know how the fan reception would be. I'm glad Andy did get billed in the credits and get a significant role...Lorne is awesome, I can't imagine Angel without him!

Love Lorne
I always wondered that too. I love Lorne, and he was a main character AT LEAST in season 3.

David was barely around in Season 1 of Buffy and he was in the line up. That always irked me.

I don't know. I think it has something to do with salary... Maybe I'm completely wrong there. At least Joss didn't pull something like he did with Amber Benson.

From what I hear, after the network said that only if they could bring James they will give it another season (5), for the ratings (after all, he's very popular). And James agreed to that only if he'll be a regular - meaning he must be in the opening credits, meaning he will get as much money. He knew what he was doing.

Probably has something to do with the type of contract Andy had (but that's just a guess as I'm not well versed on such matters).

IIRC, David was not a main character in Buffy season 1, just a recurring character (according to the credits anyway 😛)

I think it is because Spike was a already popular character and James had been around since almost the beginning? They were both great and popular characters but I think James may have been a bit more popular.

These shows and credits were weird though. They never really included Amber and Harmony was included in season five wasn't she after only being on that season lol I don't get it at times.

I think one of the main reasons they bought JM over to Angel was to help with ratings. He completely deserved to be in the main line-up. When it came to Andy - maybe he just didn't know how to negotiate for better money and billing - or Joss wasn't sure what kind of role he was going to give him. It's not so awful being a guest star.

I dont think David was on the credits for Season one.....I think he was on the special guest stars?
