Okay, now that that's out of the way, the writers screwed up in major fashion within the couple of pages here. Spike loses a leg, and, within seconds of it being detached, it explodes in a cloud of dust. Then, he talks about hating when something like that happens, and how it'll take "a day or more while it grows back." Then Spike and Gunn make a three-legged retreat and plan to "grab some more of the healing gunk" on the way back to the Hyperion.

Okay, I can sort of accept that there's some sort of "healing gunk" somewhere that will regenerate Spike's leg overnight. Sort of. Even though that pretty much eliminates the risk factor in anything that they do. Lose an arm? A leg? An eye? Get your wiggly parts cut off? No problem. Magic gunk will fix everything back again, all good as new.

But if Spike's leg dusts IMMEDIATELY after being severed in "Aftermath," why did his hands remain intact in "Damaged," and why bother grafting them back on if he can grow new ones overnight?


(And, off topic, we now have a horny hell god with immoral desires involving Connor. Talk about every teenager's dream come true! Let's just hope that she doesn't revert to her true form in the middle of the dance)

Ugh that's no good. I would demand that anyone who writes the Angel comic at LEAST watch all of S5 before they start writing.

Thats been bugging me a bit. I can buy that there is some magic stuff that can help someone regrow lost limbs, but, it seems too convenient without some side effects, or something. Plus, if it's easy to get a hold of some, why didn't any one get any for Xander? I'm sure he'd loved to get his eye back. As for the leg dusting, that did not fit in at all.

I'm just going to post this here rather than start a new threaed, but Bill Willingham spoke a little about whats coming up for Spike at the C2E2 convention:

In "Angel," Willingham's IDW comic based in the "Buffy" universe established by Joss Whedon, he announced another plot point that will deal with issues regarding villain and hero roles.

"Fables" is bearing down on its 100th issue

"The spoiler for this is that Spike from the 'Angel' series has been wondering for some time why prophecy never works out for him, why he's never the good guy," the writer said. "He's been looking into who gets to write prophecy. Do you go to school? Do you get a certificate? Is there a board of prophets that licenses you to?"

Circumstances will soon present Spike with the opportunity to tip prophecies in his favor, according to Willingham.

"One, he comes into a bit of money, and two, he has access to tons and tons of out-of-work Hollywood lawyers, so he starts hiring them to write prophecies where he's the star," he explained.

Given IDW's lineup, I wish Brian Lynch would just continue writing about Angel Investigations, and Bill Willingham would write a spin-off with Connor, Kate, and Eddie Hope. Connor & Kate still working at Angel Inc., but Willingham's title being more Connor-centric.

Willingham just doesn't understand Spike. Even John Byrne, who is supposedly a legendary writer has trouble capturing their voices. Not too surprising as it's obviously tough since New York Times #1 Best Seller Kelley Armstrong was pretty abysmal compared to less famed writers like Brian Lynch...
