J. August Richards, best known to everyone here as Charles Gunn, has been confirmed as being cast in the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot.

No news yet on what his role will be (other than it 'super top secret) or if he will continue as a cast member past the pilot.

Interesting -- there seemed to be a distinct lack of Whedon alumni in this series, which I thought was kind of odd. Granted, he's not the first one I'd be looking to see in this series, but I'm still quite interested in seeing what they do with him.

Awesome! I was kind of wondering where he'd been since Angel ended. I loved Gunn, and J was fantastic, so I'm more into SHIELD because of this.

He's been in a lot since Angel. Emily Owens, The Mentalist, Warehouse 13, Conviction, Raising the Bar...just to name a few, lol.
Excellent news, I do hope he sticks around. I know that some people get annoyed that Joss casts people from previous shows but I love the fact that he does it.

Finally, a Whedon actor in there! I was kinda missing Joss usual throw of any actor we've already seen before 🙂

Cool, It's nice to see the actorswe love appear in more Whedon creations, definitely looking forward to it, can't wait for an air date let alone the actual Pilot!

He was just in the latest episode of Arrow as well

Which I find really funny considering Arrow is DC Comics and S.H.I.E.L.D. (or AoS or whatever) is Marvel XD
But I guess he won't be the first/last to be guest starring in the "competition's" TV show 🙂

haha very true. I like Arrow a lot but watching it makes me miss Smallville more and more.

Well everybody* seems to be guest-starring on Arrow lol! Not that I'm complaining, to me it shows more "respect" between genre shows than competition, and I like that.

*actors from Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Seth Gable from Fringe...
