After reading the David Fury interview.

DF: I can't comment on the Angel comics since I haven't seen them, but I have read a handful of the Buffy Season 8s. They're undeniably fun, but I prefer not to think of them as canon, even if Joss does. It's like a movie adaptation of a great book... Two different mediums need to be appreciated as separate entities. The plus side of comics is there are no limits to what can be imagined or created... But those limits are what made the show such a great accomplishment of storytelling. Still, it is nice to know the characters live on...

Now I am just asking the question.
If Joss decided to give the fans a choice to vote, to keep the comics canon, or make them non-canon. Which would you pick. I have enjoyed Angel: After The Fall. So i would choose for it to remain canon.

By the way, i am aware they are canon, and that's how it will stay. Still i'd like to hear your opinions.

While I think both the comics are canon, it's interesting to read that one of the writers is amongst the people who pick their own canon.

After the Fall? Joss storyboarded it as he did with every season of Buffy & Angel--I say it stays.

Aftermath? We'll see...

It took me awhile to warm up to ATF but yes I would like to see it kept as canon for all the reasons I alreay stated in the Season 8 thread. Also, I thin ATF isn't as huge an issue as Season 8. This isn't season 6 at all. It is simply the period of time immediately after NFA. Season 6 is yet to be determined...if ever.

Yeah. All in all it might turn out to be that length, but AtF is like a 3 episode arc. Two more have been confirmed by Kelley Armstrong (on by herself the other following hers written by Lynch).

To be fair though, Season Eight isn't really season eight either in terms of length. There's no way its 40 issues would even fill half of a 22 episode Buffy Season. 11/22 would be a stretch, I'd lean closer to 8/22.

The difference is that in season 8 (and AtF) there are no "fluff" episodes. Every issue... even the seemingly fluffy ones like "After These Messages"... moves the season arc forward in some way. The amount of uber-plot content will probably be about the same as a TV season, just without any breaks for monster-of-the-week or comic relief stuff.

A lot of people miss that, but honestly the fluff portion of this story came to an end in the corridor of Sunnydale High with talk of post-apocalypse mini-golf and shopping.

imo, Buffy S3 (joss' best work) didn't have any episodes that would fall into that category either and we got around 16.5 hours of it!

Why have a poll on this? I think the answer is pretty obvious. Not keeping it canon would be totally confusing and I'm finding the Angel comics confusing enough as is.

I think that both series should be kept as canon simply for the reason that we were told before they were introduced that they would be canon. What we read was a legitimate continuation of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel The Series." To change that now would be inconsiderate and disrespectful to the fans, and, let's face it, without us, no matter how talented they might be, Joss, or Sarah, or David, or James, or any of the others involved in the creation of the show, including the artists and writers who create the books might just as well be bagging groceries at Wal-Mart or slapping burgers an McDonalds.

Keep it canon.
First of all I love it! Honestly, I'm a little confused about why people think it's confusing. : pconfuse

Second: As much as I enjoy them, canon isn't defined by quality. It's about what is fact for the story and fact can't be "picked" or we would have serious problems when debating certain things in the forums.
DF:... Two different mediums need to be appreciated as separate entities.

I don't see how just because it's in a different medium it can't be part of the established fictional universe"¦ It's not like they are two different versions of the Buffyverse, therefore needing to be treated seperately. The comics are a continuation- new material tacked on to old material.
You don't even have to view it as an actual season if you don't want; it can still be canon material as "After the Fall" instead of "season 6." A movie wouldn't be a season and it would be a different form of storytelling, but I doubt anyone would object to it as canon. So why all the dispute about the comics? (Note: I'm not sure if people here argue about it, but over at Livejournal it's been a huge issue)

Third: I completely agree with white avenger that it would be disrespectful to change it now. I've enjoyed them immensely, but I don't have the money to pay $4 a month, not to mention the hardcover volumes, for something that is equivalent to excellent fanfic.

What I don't understand is Joss' seeming unwillingness to just come out and say, once and for all, what's canon and what's not. Not just with AtF/Aftermath, but all the other things that have been pulled into the fray, by their existance, such as the Asylums etc. It's confusing. I'd have thought that as a storyteller he'd want to make that clear.

Actually, that shouldn't be too hard... even Brian said Asylum etc weren't canon.

The way I see it the only difficult part is the Tales of the Vampires story Dames which didn't appear in the main series/TPB, but in a flipbook. Then there's the Tales of the Slayers one-shot Broken Bottle of the Djinn. Finally, Angel: Long Day's Night, which was written by Joss himself.

I'd like to see AtF as canon because I really liked the LA going to hell storyline since I first heard of it. But there's some kind of a mental block somewhere that doesn't really associate it with the televion series. Maybe it's because it's in comic form, I don't really know. Sometimes I think if it was a book I wouldn't have a problem with it.

The problem with that being that with Betta George an Asylum character suddenly became canon. I don't really have a problem with that because I think a telepathic fish is pretty cool but more with the fact that Spike said something along the lines of that he and George go way back. So, technically with that statement Asylum should have become canon but we don't know for sure. If Asylum isn't canon then Spike's statement doesn't make sense.

Joss recently said he experiences the same thing.
