Angel Airdates

So I was checking out my Angel collection's airdates (don't ask), and I cam across something weird... Both S4 and S5 have a HUGE, like month long break between 2 episodes. It's like Nov. 11 - Jan. 17. (Can't remember exactly) Can someone please explain? I never watched Angel (or Buffy and Firefly for that matter) when it originally was shone.

Isn't there something in the States where some shows take a hiatus over Christmas?

Yes shows generally go on a six-week haitus over Christmas, in fact they have started calling them 'mini-seasons' with currently airing shows (like Lost).

I dont know where the "mini-seasons" thing comes from, but yes, generally, shows take a small hiatus over Christmas Holidays (right after "November Sweeps"). Mostly because people are so busy with holiday stuff, ratings go down. Also, after the "February Sweeps" most shows go on a second small hiatus, before coming back with their final episodes.

And, some series have started airing just in the winter/spring months because they are better seen serialized (week after week). Examples are: "24" (since season 4), "Lost" (since season 4), "One Tree Hill" (Season 5).

Battlestar started the term 'mini-season' at least around here and it's carried over to other shows (on media and TV advertising, at least locally!) That's what I meant about the 'mini-seasons' 🙂
