Angel and Cordelia

In "Heartthrob" (season 3, ep 1) Angel refers to Buffy as the women he loves.

For those of you who 'ship Cangel, this question is for you;

When do you think Angel fell in love with Cordelia? Or, phrased differently, when did Angel stop loving Buffy?

Well, I can personally testify that you can be in love with two people at the same time, especially when you love them from afar and aren't in a relationship with either one. I don't think Angel will ever stop being in love with Buffy or Cordelia (though I'd appreciate more allusions to her in the comics etc.)

I first noticed a "Cangel" possibility in the Pylea arc where Angel is fighting Groo and Cordelia gets worried about Groo and Angel starts saying "You love me too, at least as a friend and as a coworker" or something along those lines.

I also think that when Angel found out Buffy was dating Riley and had "moved on" he probably released his heart from her a little bit or at least enough to begin thinking of someone else that way.

I think Angel still loves Buffy and will always deep down be in love with her but I think given the circumstances he had to let her go, and once that was done, it opened up his heart to have someone else.

Agree. I don't think Angel ever stopped or will stop loving Buffy. Just like Buffy loves Angel. But just like with Buffy and Angel, I believe that still, Buffy loves Spike. So even though Angel loves Buffy, doesn't mean he won't love somebody else. But I'm repeating what's been said here 🙂

I'm not really certain whether or not I "ship Cangel," or not, but I can definitely see a connection between Angel and Cordy that, with very little encouragement, and a little more time, would probably have gone that way. That's not to say that Angel will ever stop loving Buffy. She is his first love, and the standard by which every future relationship will be measured. And, Cangle or not, I am absolutely certain that, if the series goes on long enough, there WILL be other loves for Angel. Maybe Faith, since their partnership will almost certainly bring them closer together than they ever have been before. Maybe Nina, if the character ever develops. One way or the other, it's GONNA happen. Count on it.

I don't know if you can pinpoint the exact moment Angel fell in love with Cordelia. I think it was a gradual development of feelings. From appreciation to respect, and then from friendship to love.

I think Angel began to look at Cordy in a different light in "Offspring," when Fred mentioned Kyerumption. Angel also suddenly got nervous when Wesley asked who brought him flowers, and even more nervous when Cordy said she loved him. He thought it meant something more, but she just meant as friends. I think it surprised Angel that he got nervous, and in fact had romantic feelings for Cordy.

With Buffy, I don't think Angel will ever stop loving Buffy, but I do believe he was able to move on and open his heart to falling in love again (just as Buffy was able to in time). Buffy's death didn't kill him. I think that was when Angel realized he had moved on.

And I'm a Cangel shipper. Second only to Spuffy. 😀

Edit: But, I noticed the possibility of Cangel in "To Shanshu in LA," when Angel held Cordy's hand in the hospital and promised to get her back, and that he needed her back.

Angel and Buffy will always love each other, even if they are with other people. They will always have a connection and a special bond.

Cordelia and Angel should never have happened! They love each other as friends and co-workers... that is all.

Well this is hard because yes I think Angel will always have a soft spot for Buffy but I don't think he was in love with her as much as he claimed. I think he loved the idea more.

I think he started having feelings for Cordy early on but they didn't surface. We really start to notice in season 2/3 but the way he interacts with her in the season one finale really has me thinking especially after so many watches.

Overall I don't think Angel doesn't love Buffy but I just don't think he loves her in the way he did or the way it seems like be all end all. I think he always had feelings for Cordy which turned to love. It is natural though with the relationship they had and the way they needed each other.

Angel's jealously about Groo is SO obvious in Season 3. He clearly has feelings for her. When he gives her the money to go on vacation, it's clear that he's giving something up. God, I love selfless Angel.

He's so insistent that nothing is going on though...obviously he has feelings for her.

Yeah I definitely agree that when Groo appears, that is when I started to notice his feelings for Cordelia. I don't know if in the beginning of Ats he had feelings for her. I think at that time he just regarded her as a friendly face in LA.

It was early on, in To Shanshu In LA. Then it progressed after Epiphany... but didn't come to a head until Offspring. Then he completely admitted it to himself in Waiting In The Wings.

Or, if you wanna go back farther, I personally like their moment in City Of, at the end when Cordy willingly shows her vulnerable side to Angel, and Angel, really for the first time in the episode, smiles to her, then she smiles at him, and then she goes back into Cordelia mode.

Cordy & Angel are the best of the best of the best!!! IMO They are what makes life so awesome. Falling in love is one thing. But then to fall in love with your best friend, well that's probably the best thing that could ever happen to anyone on this earth.
We are all born. We live, then we die!!! But to have a best friend is an amazing gift to come out of life. But to have your bestest friend in the entire world to also be your soul mate and understand you fully. Then you've hit the jack-pot baby!!!!! Yeah,,, GO the Cangel!!!!
