1) I really want to know what day Giles lost.

2) Once again I am struck by how incredibly, and tragically, similar Giles and Angel can be.

HisMrs -- that's what he says:

Giles: "The fabric holding the spell together was my life. Specifically, one of the best days of my life. I'm not certain which one. That day is gone from my memory now. I don't know precisely what I lost. But its absense leaves an ache I believe I shall carry with me forever".

Interesting tidbit. I wonder if it's a token "magic has consequences" reminder, or a set-up for a future plot twist.

I thought this too. It seems too specific to just be an off the cuff spell detail. With the whole Mohra thing going on I can't help but wonder will Angel offer something similar in order to raise Giles from the dead? Say, like the IWRY day. That would absolutely gut me, but it would be so very Jossian.

People at Whedonesque think that it was Giles' day with Jenny, and that Angel got that memory instead Giles when he killed the demon:

If that's what happens - poor Angel, getting Giles' memories to torture him as a price for saving the girl - it's typically Jossian, too.

Looks like Joss has some unused Dollhouse scenarios for A&F, and he plans to play with the notion of memory and imprinting one person's memories into another person's mind.

Oh. That is much more likely. And also, ouch. That would be unbearable. He killed them both. Took that happiness from them both. And then he has the Watcher Diaries to provide the emotional core of what those memories meant to Giles and the hole their absence caused in him.

No wonder he is going on this kamikaze mission to raise Giles from the dead. I think Angel has finally found the one thing he can't live with. 🙁

This looks better than I thought it would. Glad I'll be seeing more of Angel, and I am SUPER stoked that Faith is one of the leads of this series too. Can't wait to see what she gets up to 🙂

I honestly don't know why they bother to charge for the comics anymore: they show so much of the it in the previews. By the time the issue comes out I feel like I'm only paying for a few pages.

Ok, grumpiness aside, I adore that we're going to see more Giles, even if it is in flashback. It's incredibly fitting that Angel (with Faith) is going to be keeping Giles' commitments.

Honestly, I think the preview pages have been so excessive with the Angel and Faith title because it is new and trying to woe people to it. I wouldn't expect us to get this number of previews going forward with issues.

ETA: First recap from Whedonesque (spoilers)

http://whedonesque.com/comments/27165#420323

Opens with Giles trying to exorcise the demon from the little girl some years back. Failing that he binds the demon to the girl using his blood to seal the demon in. Cut to Angel and Faith fighting the demon now. Turns out when Giles died it allowed the demon to break the seal and return to the girl. By endangering the girls life Angel and Faith remove the demon and kill it. In the process the demons blood gets on Angel, and because it was Giles life keeping the demon in check it floods Angel with memories of Giles' life. Angel is all remorse and Faith tries to ease his pain. Angel calls it a night but Faith goes off to meet a firmer slayer at a club. They talk and the slayer informs her of her plans to kill Angel for allowing, as Twilight, two of his fanatics, a brother sister half demon duo named Nash and pearl to slaughter her slayer squad as he watched. Later on we meet up with Whistler, who is cut from the PTB and has difficulty discerning the future, meeting at bar with Nash and Pearl convincing them to kill Angel as a means of helping restore the balance that was lost when the Seed was destroyed. So Faith has returned home to our brooding prince where he states that by using the Watcher files to help the helpless he also intends on bringing Giles back to life.

Whistler! The little snake! He convinces Angel to go through with the bloody whole thing and then he back tracks? Did he go rogue or something? Was he acting against PTB wishes? Gah...I need this issue so bad!

Whistler's intention to kill Angel surprised me. I'm almost sure that he lies about restoring the balance by killing Angel - it just doesn't make sense. Maybe he is afraid that Angel will kill him for tricking him into the Twilight business, so he takes preventive measures?

Or maybe Whistler got it very very wrong? Or maybe he wasn't anymore trustworthy than say, Skip? And the balance thing doesn't make sense at all. Angel dying won't bring the Seed back. Or, maybe Whistler is pissed that his link to the PTB is gone? He's essentially useless now? If that's the case he might want to look in the mirror first before he is recruiting Slayers to hand out justice. This is a real curve ball. I hadn't expected this from Whistler.

Joss can surprise us still! 🙂
I hope Angel and Whistler will meet soon. I sooo want to see their encounter!
