How many more threads are you going to open with the same title and the same context? If you wanted more discussion on it you could have just revived your previous thread. That is still open and active btw.. It's not hard to see since it's on page 1 of the DB forum and one of the most recent topics.

I just saw an AtS s4 clip that really made me cringe. The Beast enters the Hyperion, Angel starts fighting him and shouts to Jasdelia in front of everyone "Get out of here! I can't do this with you here." And Wesley pulled her out of there so Angel wouldn't be distracted. It was not romantic at all.
Angel watching Buffy kick ass and Buffy not risking Angel wearing a "volatile" necklace that might incinerate him. That's equality.
With Buffy, Angel couldn't play the protector or dark knight. She even has a much higher onscreen kill count than he does.
See I was just reviewing Rm w/a Vu and I was pointing out that I loved the C/A dynamic in s1 and s2 where Angel doesn't treat Cordelia as this fragile helpless person. Sure she doesn't have supernatural abilities so he has to save her from certain situations but in later seasons Cangel had the unintended consequence of turning Angel (where Cordelia is concerned) into this overprotective pod guy. I don't like that dynamic. He isn't like that with Buffy. He isn't like that with Darla. He isn't even really like that with Fred in seasons 4 and 5 (and in the comics).

There appear to be at least 5 or 6 discrete threads by the same person wth the same or similar themes. And that is just page 1 of my search. That seems like a lot. Seems like a lot to me.

Which women? Most younger women I know what to be loved, and admired, but not 'daddied' and most older women like me, really don't want 'controlling boyfriend guy'. Sacrifice for me, yes, control my every move and growl at all my friends? definitely not! Because, YUCK!

My 3 reasons why he can't sign it away:
1) Written in blood: Angel doesn't have blood that's his own like humans. In Angel's case it was written with the blood of Miss Piggy.
2) The maker of the prophecy: W&H aren't the ones who made it. If they were, then they could have whoever it might be about sign it away.
3) You can't sign away a prophecy: If it was that easy to make yourself non-eligible then all Buffy had to do in S1 was sign her name in blood under the prophecy that said she was to die at the hands of the Master and voilà, no dead Buffy.

The younger ones who flock to see Twilight, and the older ones who go in droves to read/watch 50 shades; the unifying theme is a controlling borderline abusive male 'romantic lead'.
I'm not saying its universal but it clearly has an audience.

And bringing this back to the Whedonverse. You have a character like Spike who represents no less than 3 freaking tropes. All of which have to die in fiction.
1) Bad boy redeemed by the love of a good woman
2) Wear her down until she gives in
3) The abuser who is flashy, funny and kinda hot and no one can resist
Hell he also fits the 'slavish devotee trope'. Someone so devoted to another person to the exclusion of everything and everyone else. They will even kill themselves for the person they are devoted to.
And Spike clearly is beloved by a lot of women (and also some men), including on this forum. Even by those who are asking 'who are those women?' and who sprout about feminism. It will never not be funny to me, to be honest. By supporting a character like this, especially as loudly and vehemently as some in the fandom do, you are part of the problem as to why this nonsense still exists in fiction. Love the irony.

Agreed 100% with Spike. That's the analogy I use. He gets sanitized as some misunderstood bad boy. Just reading comments on YouTube is discouraging lol Some stating they'd let someone as hot as him do whatever hr wanted to them. And find him forcing his way on Buffy sexy. Then gushing because he offered to give het money once. Lol
