Angel beat Buffy The Vampire Slayer?

On TV Guides top 10 Supernatural Shows....

Angel came in first, followed by Buffy. How can Angel beat Buffy? Angel was a spin off of Buffy, shouldn't Buffy be ranked better. It's a cult classic and ANGEL beat it?! Gotta be some kind of government conspiracy.
 
I actually like Angel better than Buffy. Not by much cause I love them both, but it is possible for a spin-off to be better than it's parent show. I am not saying that Angel is, I just happen to like it better.
 
I am a 100% Buffy supporter in that category, I LOVE Angel its an amazing show, but I like everything on Buffy so much better, Storylines, characters the way they speak!
 
I personally would put Buffy before Angel, not because i think either is better, but because Buffy came first, HOWEVER i could see why Angel would beat it, im most ways it has the same basics of the Buffy world, humour, character lay-out, demon use, BUT where Angel is different to me is that Buffy deals with all the issues from the bent of a teenager growing up, Angel deals with a situation with a maturity already ingrained into the show......and people possibly prefer the adult treatment as opposed to the sickly young view....THE best two episodes to compare this is
Tabula Rasa and Spin the Bottle.
Basically the same premise, with the basic humour, but while one is terrifically lighthearted, even with the break up, the other has a comic turn BUT damn its dark.
 
Whenever Angel beats out BtVS for anything, I always assume it's 'cause they have David... Y'know.

And they got James around the end too.
 
There's was just never the acclaim around Angel that Buffy had....

Plus Season 5 of Angel should discount it from the top 5 😀 (Just MY Humble Opinion)
 
no way i am a 110% buffy supporter... dont get me wrong i love angel.. its just that buffy is my favorite and i think that it is a classic!! i love it
 
It is interesting. I mean BTVS was way better than ATS in any day not to mention the fact that ATS is totally based on the characters from BTVS. ATS is the story of Angel on redemption and he was a character from BTVS. BTVS is the origin of it. Of all the storylines. It is not fair to say ATS is to beat BTVS because it can not. If it does, it beats itself too.
 
Was this voted for by critics or viewers? If the latter then I still don't understand it (I love both shows but Buffy should come first), but if it's a critic's thing then it's illogical, as THE BLUE has already stated. Buffy garnered many accolades during its run, yet Angel is usually only mentioned as an extension of those.
 
I don't understand why its so hard for people to accept....
IF Fans Voted.....well as most people here are proving it wasn't all fans, so chances are its not a proper cross section, however that still could result in Angel winning if it was. I visit a couple of sites where people actually dislike Buffy, but Love Angel.
Its nout unheard of for a spin off to be voted higher, even when the main character was from the Spin-off......Frazier and Cheers anyone!
 
I agree with Dia DeLa Muerte. Just because it's a spinoff doesn't mean it can't be better in some peoples' eyes.

It can beat BtVS. And saying that BtVS is better is just an opinion. It doesn't matter that AtS was based on BtVS, it's still a different show.

I know, i see that and like i said, i'd vote Buffy just because of that reason because i couldnt find another reason personally......
I mean the Frazier comparison is true....I mean Cheers Spawned Frazier, yet constantly in polls of fave sitcoms,it regularly beats Cheers, and infairness Cheers is just as funny, same wit, and the daddy of the show.

THOUGH the Day Joey becomes better then Friends is the day Hell has Frozen over and the planet is barren!!!!
