This book is written by Nancy Holder and is quiet different from the episode. I've done a step by step guide of how its different so for those who havent read it and dont want to be spoiled dont read any further 🙂
Its a very short book. Bangel fans will love it because of all the insight into Angel's thoughts and feelings. The prologue starts with him thinking: ''.....Buffy had sent him to hell herself, with a sword and with a kiss. For her he would go to hell forever. His need for her had grown to the point where he wanted her more than he wanted his soul.'' What Bangel wouldnt love that 🙂
The opening bar scene is the same, then there's a flashback chapter of Angel being turned, followed by him sitting in his apartment and thinking about the dream Buffy had in Surprise.
Doyle arriving and telling the story of Angel's life is the same but there's an added bit of Angel remembering how Whistler found him and the scene from Becoming is described. The bit with Angel and Doyle outside the apartment were Doyle tells him about Tina is the same but then Angel thinks about meeting Buffy in Welcome To The Hellmouth and that scene is described.
Angel meeting Tina and going to the apartment is the same but its followed by Angel remembering killing Jenny in Passion. The rest is the same: meeting Cordy and rescuing Tina. After he saves Tina there's a flashback to Dublin 1838, London 1860 and 1883.
Cordy's scene at her apartment until Tina is killed is the same and then there's another flashback scene to Dru and Spike in 1956.
Angel finding Tina dead is the same as the episode but its followed by another flashback of Rumania 1898. There's then a chapter on Buffy, it has the end scene of Surprise and the end Bangel scene of Becoming. There's then the scene of Angel trying to save Faith in Consequences. The episode resumes with Cordy's scene then she has a flashback moment of Buffy and Willow telling her that Angel is a vampire (I think the scene is from Halloween). The rest of the book plays out pretty much like the episode 🙂
