Angel comics following AtF

If anybody in here has read them and actually has good things to say about them, could you please name a few things that might get me interested to read the comics following AtF? 😛

For me it stopped after the issue #17.

Also all the canon/non-canon stuff get me really confused. Which issues are canon and which are not?

Pretty much only Angel After the fall is canon, since that's been stated by Joss, but Spike After the fall and Spike Asylum and Spike Shadow puppets and issue 23 of the on-going series(a epilouge to Angel After the fall) are canon-y.

Asylum and SP is written by Brian Lynch, who wrote After the fall, and two characters who appeared in them later appeared in Angel After the fall, so it's kind of canon, and doesn't contradict anything that's canon(that I know of). Spike After the fall is also written by Lynch and fits into the Angel After the fall storyline.

So I would start with those, in case you liked Lynch's writing(I love all of them). Franco Urru, who also did a lot of the art of Angel After the fall did all the art for those comics too (I think he did for issue 23, but I would have to check).

Actually, if you like Lynch writing, and would like to read more of him, vol 6 named Last Angel in Hell contains issue 23-27, which has a Gunn story, a Dru story and a Spike/Angel story and a parody of Angel After the fall(it's real goofy, a movie writer did a movie about the events in LA in hell, but got it all wrong, and now that became a comic book, goog le it, it's called "Last Angel In Hell").

I actually read AtF 1-17, and Spike: After the Fall. I stopped there though. But watching Angel again, i'm interested in maybe taking a look at the on going series, lol!

So i'd pretty much just want peoples opinion on the issues after #17. Is the story decent? What you like/dislike about it?

Aftermath sucked in many people's opinion, but I was just kind of indifferent(except about the art, what were they thinking?). It did remind me of the first season of Angel tough, which was nice. Issue 23 is cool, issue 24-25 about Dru was half-decent, issue 26-27 was hilarious and goofy and that's what I've read of the ongoing series. But over all, it's kinda of meh compared to Angel After the fall. But I'm looking forward to Lynch's ongoing Spike series beginning sometime this summer.

In my opinion: I'm just quitting all this AtF nonsense. IDW really screwed up with all the spin-offs and stuff. I have:
After The Fall- 1-17
Spike: After The Fall (It's really just an extension of First Night, issues 6-8)
The Lorne one-shot (It was okay, but kinda rushed, and a little depressing. It was a really good tribute to Andy Hallett and Lorne though)
AtF: Epilogue: Become What You Are (#23. It's coming in the mail. Apparently, most people consider it to be canon)

My Two Cents:

1-17 & 23: 4/5 (four out of five stars)

Aftermath 18-22: 1/5 (horrible everything, breaks canon)

Dru 24-25: 2.5/5 (not bad, just pointless)

B&TT 26-27: 3.5/5 (good quality fun, highly recommend)

TCPS 28-30: 2/5

Aftermath (#18-22)
Abysmally bad. You're left with the feeling that the author has only read the Amazon.com summaries of the seasons, since specific dialog she writes breaks the show's canon, outright contradicting much of Seasons 3-5. You're also left with the impression the artist has never seen David Boreanaz since Angel doesn't even bear a remote resemblance to the actor (don't let the covers fool you, different artist). To me, I'd say he looks somewhere between a young Arnold Schwarzenegger & Dean Cain.

The bulk of Aftermath was so abysmal that Bill Willingham couldn't salvage most of it and just ignored most aspects when he took up the series.

The only reason I'd recommend at least skimming this pitiful series is because Dez the Werecat and the Winged Angel are carried over as recurring characters.

The Crown Prince Syndrome (#28+)
Connor is written excellently, and is the star of this arc (he's the "prince"). Kate is written very well too. Eddie Hope is the new villain and he's fresh, new, and cool enough to become a major player across multiple IDW titles.

Angel is written like he was in early seasons of Buffy. His dialog is very poetic in the manner he used to speak to Buffy. It seems out of character since he hasn't spoken that way since the 21st Century. He also has a reduced role, barely showing up in some issues.

Spike mostly makes sex jokes or talks about how handsome he is... While his lines sound like his "voice" none of us can quite figure out why his role has been reduced to making double-entendres 75% of the time rather than any real contributions. His fighting skills have been reduced to being lower than Gunn's and his IQ seems to be just above mentally-challenged. Don't expect the witty insightful guy we all know.

Barbary Coast
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this, but it turned out to be extremely impressive.

Fallen Angel Reborn
Only Illyria appears, but I found it to be pretty exciting.

Only Human
Not bad, reads like excellent fan fiction.

PS - Nothing aside from After the Fall is canon.

No I LOVE AtF! The first 4 volumes and Spike: At5 are fantastic! What I meant is just that basically... I'm sick of thinking. I keep worrying about what's canon and what's not, so now I'm just thinking: screw it. I'm gonna read what is produced by Joss (and the couple extras that I listed earlier) and I'm done. I have Aftermath, and I was entertained, but it just wasn't Angel. I did like the new characters though. I would love to read the next volumes in Hastings or somewhere, but I'm not gonna buy them.
