Angel comics

Whedon has made the statement that the reason for few, if any appearences of either Angel or Spike in the new Buffy comics series is due to the fact that Angel comics are published by a different publisher. I didn't even know that there was an Angel comic before that, but Spike has been quite present in several previous comics, so wouldn't that make him a Buffy character, rather than an Angel character? I know that he was a regular in Angel Season 5 on TV, but still, I would think that due to his much longer association with the Buffy series, he could appear there as much as Whedon cares to have him there.

On the other hand, does that mean that Spike is now a featured character in the Angel comics? I've never read any of them, and never even knew there were any until recently.

there are several Angel comics that take place during S5 and Spike appears in nearly all of them...in fact, there have been quite a few based mostly on him.
but as far as i can tell, people like Spike and Faith have sort of dual citizenship, i guess is the best way to explain it. they can appear in both. but because Spike has been appearing so exclusivly in the Angel comics for the past few years, maybe Joss and Co. think it would be better to leave him there.
there's never been any definite answer as to whether there'll be anymore Angel comics or not, as far as i can tell, so maybe there'll still hoping for an Angel S6 in comic version.

Yeah I have 'Old Friends' which happens after the Season5 finale, and Spike is in it. Got to say that the art isn't as good as Fray and what I've seen of Buffy though. Anyway, yeah apparently Angel and Spike are owned by IDW comics, but they can be used in Buffy comics... just not on a regular basis. Joss has mentioned this a lot in all the Season8 reviews I've been reading.

I guess that means either a new boyfriend for Buffy or a season of celibacy.

There is an Angel comic called Auld lang Syne out now, that features Spike as well as Angel, it has got off to a slaoow start, but it keeps you interested, though.
