The Good;
Love Wes beating up the shamen's guard, he's really come a long way from the fop we first met in Buffy season 3. CC's little talk with Angel is excellent, manipulating him shamelessly.

The Bad;
It seems a bit silly all the hassle they go to in order to take Angel's soul away. Either give him some of the drug from 'Eternity' or invite Buffy down for a one night stand. Why not just destroy the wooden swords or cut the belts and bells?

Best line:
Angel; "Wood, why does did it have to be wood?"

Jeez, how did they get away with that?
Spike through Wes' hand anyone? Stabbing the Beast up through the chin also isn't nice but you'd do it if you had to.

Gwen has skipped town and I don't blame her. Kolchak the Nightstalker referred to (the inspiration for the X-files).
I'm afraid here we have the definitive end of Cangel. When Angel lost his soul in Suprise everything was going to hell and Buffy alone was all it took to give him the happy. In this it takes a number of factors, killing the Beast, bringing the sun back, Wes back in the fold, Connor losing his resentment AND sex with CC. What's more watch it with the subtitles on. As Angel, ahem, has his pleasure moment, he says 'Buffy'. Sorry CC he wasn't thinking of you. What exactly is Jasmine's plan? Why does she want to turn day into night?

Ok i've just watched this episode with a friend, and I loooove the Cangel scene 😀 Now i'm curious cause I think the piano play is brilliant during it! I've looked online to try and find what's the name of the piece or to even hear it on youtube, but no luck 🙁

Anyone by chance would know what is the piano piece or where I could find it?

I love this ep, because I love Angelus, but reading what you wrote got me thinking about the commentary (or possibly one of the essays from Five seasons of Angel) where they do mention this.

The reason it's not only sex with Buffy or Cordy anymore is because Angel's definition of happiness is supposed to have grown. It's not enough to have a beloved girlfriend anymore, he needs his whole family together and happy now as he has grown more involved with other people and thus more complex as a character.

Another classic apart of this arc. Angelus is back, ah! That's the end of Cangel! I liked Wesley and Angel's scene.
 
Loved everything has Cangel and whenever David puts on the face of Angelus it is a good episode. The laugh at the end is my favorite.

omg I love and hate this episode at the same time! I just finished watching it and I kind of felt relieved when his sould wasn't extracted and the fact that WEsley said sorry and how Cordy said sorry and they made out and there was a happily ever after....a little too happy. Then I kept think wait a sec! they can't get down n dirty! he will turn into Angelus! There went all my happiness =/ I really thought it was going to end happily. although that thought was totally bombed, I do like the fact that they made it a "dream" and Angelus comes back and that laugh...oh my that laugh at the end! It's so creepy!!! Angelus is awesome!
 
I really like this episode, my favorite part is the Cangel scene at the end. This is one of the few episodes in the 4th season that I actually like.
 
I thought that episode was brilliant!
I knew that we'll see the Beast in next episodes, I knew Cordy would never have sex with Angel knowing the consequences; I was surprised when Wesley didn't seem to suffer too much when that thing went through his hand... I kept thinking "There is something, something I can't grasp, but something that is wrong".

When I finally understood it all happened in Angel's mind, I thought "THAT'S WHY SOMETHING WAS WEIRD, WAAAAH *.*"

I absolutely loved the end, when Angel opens his eyes and Cordelia says "Angelus" and he watches them, laughing...It was scary and wonderful, I really love Angelus!
 
I loved this episode. So much CANGEL-NESS! I was very upset at the end cause it was all just a fantasy. But I do enjoy having Angelus brought into the show again.
 
First time I saw it I was genuinely surprised at the end. Although I guess I shouldn't have been, it was too perfect. Angel's fantasy life is very vivid. I kind of fast-forwarded through the Cangel scene since my 9 yr old was watching with me. Have to tell you that he thought it was hilarious how quickly Connor said "OK" when Angel told him Angel: "If anything should go wrong with Angelus, you're gonna have to kill me." Only a preteen boy would cheer Connor on LOL!

I, too, am super excited to be seeing Angelus again.
 
Amazing eps 😀 So well done and the writing is amazing. So many lines from the eps made me laugh, cause of how awesome the actors said them

Angel: Wood. Why'd it have to be wood. (that's a ref to Indiana Jones)

Angel: If anything should go wrong with Angelus, you're gonna have to kill me.
Connor: (Instantly) Okay.
Angel: If anything goes wrong.

Beast: *after seeing the only weapon made that can kill him* Is that what I think it is? *in an up beat tone while smiling*

Gunn: Owww can I play with it!?

Angel: (Beast comes crashing in) Oh, there he is...

Beast: We could rule this world. Why do you oppose me?
Angel: Rain of fire; blocking out the sun; and you just kinda piss me off
 
I'd agree with a lot of what's been said already- it would have been a perfectly good episode as it stood, but the revelation at the end that three quarters of it is just happening in Angel's head as the process of turning him into Angelus is just the icing on the cake.

Well I think it's the ending that makes it good. If you watch the ep again and take it as a normal ep it would simply be ok. I speaks volumes about Angel's character.

He's incredibly idealistic at heart even if his persona is often more cynical. He's not stupid but what I love about his personality he dreams for a better world, not just for him but for everyone. He's redefined happiness since he was with Buffy, FACT and it shows how he's not a static character. His heroism is steeped in ambiguity, the darkness of his mistakes and soulless past. His fantasy shows the hero he wants to be, the hero he feels he was meant to be. This is one of the reasons I find it so hard to be mad at him half to time because as much as he gets it wrong, uhgh, he tries.

When he sees everyone else go into the light, he's happy even though he doesn't get to go into it. Humanity is happy, so he is happy. Their joy is reflected in him. This is classic Angel: When he feels maknind is truly worth saving he begins to have hope for himself, but mankind comes first
as he says to Cordy in You're Welcome, he often doesn't even consider himself as someone worth saving

Love & agree with your perceptions on Angel's character.
At first I thought this episode was ok and then...it really surprised me. It was great...expect for the Cangel thing..I swear, David and Charisma have ho chemistry at all! I'm really happy when he speaks Buffy's name (ahahahah)...I miss when he was ONLY her in all the world to give him happiness..he didn't need anything else. It kinda bugs me Cordelia (AND other stuff) gave him happiness but I'll get over it. The end was one of the best I've ever seen...with him just laughing...AWESOME David.

Y'know the entirety of the episode is mostly okay, but the ending just winds up making the whole thing brilliant 😀

I can ignore the "Buffy" thing though. Angel and Cordy still have waay more chemistry (sw)

This is why I have such a problem with that line. It's not just because I'm a Cangeler. If, like you say, the whole episode had been about Buffy coming to LA and B/A getting jiggy with it - obviously I wouldn't have been happy, but it would've made sense. Or if Cordy/Angel had actually had sex for real, and Angel had said Buffy's name. But the fact that Angel dreams about being with Cordelia, and then says Buffy's name, makes no sense at all. You can't have an entire episode revolving around Angel specifically thinking about one girl, and then imply that when he's thinking about one girl, he's actually thinking about another girl. It makes no sense.

To be completely honest, the nonsensery of that line, the randomness and incosequentiality of it, and the fact that it seems badly dubbed at the last minute with DB's lip movements not matching up to the word, leads me to conclude that that line was thrown in last-minute as nothing but a bone for the Bangel shippers, without any regard for the way it compromises the story as a whole.
