Questions and observations;
Hell of a long teaser, if you hadn't been following the series you'd be utterly lost. Note that whilst Wes is back at the AI dinner table there's no Groo? AI are almost broke, either Angel must subsidise the agency with his private income or they must spend all their time looking for Angel and CC. Vamps can exist indefinitely without blood but they go mad with hunger. Lilah mentions Mr Subarto, did she actually meet a senior partner? Do Buffy and co know about Angel's disappearance? Oddly this summer is probably the best time Connor ever has, he has 2 loving parents and a fairly normal life (as normal as it can be working for AI)

One thing that bugs me is no one wonders where Groo is? If I were Fred or Gunn, my first thought would be maybe Groo and Cordy got sucked into a portal. Groo disappears and no one cares of his whereabouts.

I like this episode we come back to a new season always love the first episodes of a season.
I loved Fred with the taser it showed so much to me, here Fred & Gunn are worried about Angel and Connor knows the whole time can't say I blame her.
One of my favorite scenes when Angel finally speaks to Connor like a dad and not in a way because he has been through so much.
Dark Wes is beyond delicious 😉 I actually liked Lilah and Wes so overall a great episode.

It never is. It's a common fanfic topic however. I personally think it's highly out of Wes' character to force himself on a captive. Justine was a means to an end and he planned on keeping her around until she helped him fix her error. He isn't the kind of guy who would do that to someone, that'd be a terrible thing. Besides Wes was getting hot and regular from Lilah.

I completely agree. I was a bit shocked when I saw on Wesleys notch count up there that it was insinuated that Wesley slept with Justine. It didn't seem like it was that type of relationship at all to me. I don't mind pushing the boundaries at all when it comes to fanfic, but it has to stay in the realms of realistic! I'm just glad I'm not the only one that didn't see it at all. I thought I was going crazy here!

This is the first I've ever heard of such a thing. I never even remotely thought he raped/molested Justine. Some people's minds go in the darkest places. Wesley isn't that kind of guy, no matter how angry at the world he had become.

I actually enjoyed this episode..it was never boring from minute one to the end. Fred with that taser leaves a bit creeped out. I know she was upset and feeling betrayed but I just don't see that in her, it felt weird and love Angel's speech to Connor at the end. It makes sense he would ask about Cordelia and that he would be pissed and hurt and betrayed his own son left him to "die" but I must say, I didn't expect he would throw Connor out of his house...I was expecting him to try and keep him to teach him something but I'm so glad they went that other way..it's a good twist.

I agree it can be understandable and reasonable, it just came as a surprise to me that her character would reach that point but she clearly bottled everything up.

Really? 'Cuz I hated it. I hate the whole Cordy/higher being thing, and her glib comments about it. Like nails on a chalkboard to me. Bring back the regular/real Cordy! That's not going to happen of course, we're talking about season 4 here. Makes me so mad at Joss about Cordy's character assassination.

alrighty, rant over. Now, who else thought that vamp Marissa climbing up the building like that was cooler than shit? Fred's attempts at street talk (& Gunn's reaction to it) crack me up. I really like Fred & Gunn here, how hard they're trying to find Angel & Cordy, and keeping everything together & taking care of Connor.

Wesley & Lilah are hot! Love their scenes together. 🙂

And I think I speak for everybody when I say THANK GOD that some killed Linwood!! He's no Holland Manners, that's for sure. Sooo glad he's gone!

I also find Angel's hallucinations/fantasies so interesting. They're such moment-of-perfect-happiness scenes. Really cool to watch that scene now, week before Thanksgiving since it reminds me so much of a holiday dinner.

Just a really fantastic episode. The 2 best quotes are very different from each other. The first is Wes' "I'll take away your bucket", and the 2nd is of course Angel's stirring: "Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh, and cruel. But that's why there's us. Champions. It doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world were as it should be, to show it what it can be."

...and so the plan of knocking off Angel S4 begins!

There's a sense of this episode coming from the same template as the beginning of Buffy seasons 3 and 6- the whole thing of the main character being missing and how the other characters cope- and then setting up the dynamics for the rest of the season. The Fred/Gunn/Connor setup is a bit different although given the payoff in the next episode, the taser business shows just how much she feels responsible for holding things together without Angel, Wesley and Cordy. And as regards the Wesley/Justine business, I don't really see anything sexual in her being chained up and gagged- Wesley's threat to take her bowl away suggests to me that he's got enough of a stranglehold on her dignity as is and using her for sexual purposes would weaken that, and if there had been anything sexual she probably would have thrown it back at him at some point.
