LULLABY

The Good;
All of it, pretty damn brilliant, especially love Holtz raiding the club. The Lilah and the interpreter scene is also great, no such thing as a minor character on Angel.
Interpreter (horrified); "You highlighted an ancient gushundi text?"
Lilah (defensively); "In yellow"

The Bad;
Even if it's just a stun grenade wouldn't Lilah and Holtz be deafened for hours afterwards? Why can't they just resoul Darla?

Best line:
Sahjahn; "He's using product but he's the same guy"

Jeez, how did they get away with that?
Darla and Angelus slaughtering Holtz's family is beyond horrible. Holtz's killing his sired daughter is the strongest and most tragic act in the series, your heart just bleeds for him.

Questions and observations;
Holtz is one pretty damn tough guy to take on WR&H's commando team. Note Angel doesn't even try to tell Holtz he has a soul, he knows he'd be wasting his time. Goodbye Caritas, after this Lorne won't bother trying to rebuild again.
The end of the Angel/Darla relationship and it's EPIC! And hello Connor (for good or ill).

One of my favorite Angel eps. I cried every time I see Darla staking herself. The scene with Lilah and the interpreter is very funny. I love it.

And I feel so sorry for Lorne. He's just finished redecorating his Caritus. Then he lost it again. 🙁 The slapping scene to check if the spell works is also hilarious. But the last scene beats every scenes in the episode. It's 10/10 for me. 😉

Julie Benz just blew my freakin' mind in this ep. Imo she gives the best, most honest & most heart-breaking performance I've seen on TV. The scene on the rooftop when she says she can offer her baby "nothing but an ugly death" is just... well there aren't really words good enough to describe it. The supreme command of the characters reaction to that set of circumstances is nothing short of spectacular. She completely stole the episode, the series & my heart with this performance.

Yeah, it's wonderful here we can have an out and out villain emoting like hell over a supreme moral dilemma

I always thought that scene was a bit gratuitous. I would have prefered if he had put a stake in her out of shot while holding her one last time. I might be wrong, but there have only ever been two vampire children in either BTVS or Angel, Sarah Holtz & Collin, The Anointed One. Both of these characters were dispatched by sunlight, as far as I can tell that would be the most brutal & painful way to get dusted. That's always bugged me a little.

Plus the vamp kid Angelus finds when he's searching for a victim in Release. Personally I think Holtz wouldn't have been able to bring it to himself to stab her or whatever but to cast her into the Almighty's pure sunlight? :cry3:

I meant from a purely directorial/artistic stand point. The first time I ever saw that scene I thought that when Holtz first enters the house & discovers the tragedy as he hugs Sarah it would have been a more poetic & beautiful shot if the camera had just stayed in close, panned round to the back of Sarah's head then she were to disappear in a cloud of dust. We'd be left with a close-up of Holtz' face, where we could get a look into his eyes, camera pans down to close-up of stake in his hand, cut to exterior, Holtz' men are standing about outside, door bursts open, exit Holtz with a vengeful look in his eye. That's just the way I would have done it.

I almost wanted to hug her when she said "Nobody wants to sit in the back with me?" She was both funny and cute.
Loved when she said "I won't throw anybody away...not while the car is riding"
And her speech on the roof was beautiful!
And when she staked herself, oh my!
Weasley made me laugh when he said "Remember, you must breathe like this: hu-hu-hu-hu-hu". He has a real woman inside of him! 😀

I cried at the end, I thought Holtz was going to kill the baby, and Angel looked so...defenceless. On the other hand, when you think about what Angelus and Darla did to Holtz'family...
It's terrible!

I always thought that Sarah burning in the sunlight was the perfect choice artistically - Holtz stood there and both literally and metaphorically watch everything he had ever loved burn to the ground.

Darla blew my mind in this episode. When she stakes herself to birth her son, it had me in tears. I realy started to feel for her character, it was sad it was her end though.
Holtz surprised me to. i was sure he'd go for Angel, I was shocked to see him let Angel walk, but you can kinda undertsnad with the baby situation.
The whole episode was amazing, and wounderful acting.
Angel never lets me down on an episode 🙂

P.S- I have decided to rewatch Angel recently a couple weeks ago from the beginning and funny thing "Lullaby" is the episode I just finished, lol.
 
I loved Darla so much in this episode..Julie Benz did a great work. The finale sacrifice, the light ever-present comedy and Lorne! I really liked this episode..one of the best of season 3. Oh and I can't stand Cordelia in this one..ahaha..I don't even know why but she just annoys me.
 
Talk about a Buffy or Angel actor that should've been nominated for an Emmy! Seriously, Julie Benz is incredible. I was bawling my eyes out at the end. Too bad this is the last of her (well, do we see anymore flashbacks with her in it? I can't remember). I have really, really liked the entire Darla arc on Angel. I'm so glad Joss et al decided to go with it, she was so undeveloped on Buffy, I didn't really like her at all there. The writing in this episode is superb, really everything, I need to stop gushing now. 🙂

Interesting to think that DB became a father a few mos after filming this episode- that must've been an interesting experience.

This whole exchange I found universally heartbreaking & painful, as many women suffer with infertility or have experienced miscarriage & stillbirth:
Darla: "He's dying. Isn't he?"
Angel: "No."

I found the lyrics to the tune Holtz was singing. It's a Welsh folktune, and these are English lyrics (not a translation of the Welsh, English lyrics added to the tune later):
